The first thing to consider when buying a big screen television is whether it will fit in your room of choice. The physical dimensions of the room will determine not only whether to get one, but also what size to get. You want a television that will fit and will not be too overpowering to viewers. Once you know this, you will be able to narrow down your choices to a few models and it should greatly simplify the process of buying that new television.
Specifications and Features
At the retail outlet, you will be bombarded with sales tags stating what each television is and what it is capable of. Contrast ratio, viewing angle, refresh rate, resolution and audio/video inputs are among the most heavily advertised features of a big screen television. With televisions, more is generally better. Higher contrast ratio will provide better defined colors, greater viewing angle will allow you to see the television clearer from non-direct angles, higher refresh rate will mean a sharper image, the resolution will determine the quality of video that can be played on the television and the amount and types of inputs are a matter of personal taste based on what type of equipment you will be plugging into the television.
Inputs
You must give consideration to what kind of video you will be playing on your big screen television. If it is simply analog cable or a similar over-the-air solution, you will not need a high resolution television, as it would bring out the flaws in the input signal. If you are using a high definition output from a digital cable, digital satellite, gaming console, home computer or the like, an HDTV with a high resolution will be very much to your liking as the high definition input will look very clear.
