Comcast Remote Controls

There are many different cable television services available. Each cable company now has a variety of options, with many offering features such as Digital Video Recorders (DVRs). Some DVRs allow you to watch one show and record another at the same time. Comcast allows this and gives you the ability to control all of your settings from one convenient remote control instead of having a collection of remote controls around your house.

Significance

The Comcast remote control allows you to have total control of your television, cable and DVR unit from one location in your house. You no longer need to have two or three different remote controls to control all your television-related electronics. The Comcast remote control is free with your Comcast subscription so you don't have to pay for an all-in-one remote control.

Function

The Comcast remote control makes it easy to switch between controlling your three devices on your television as long as you have the Comcast DVR cable box. Push one of the buttons on the top of the remote control. These are clearly labeled for TV, Cable and Aux. The Aux stands for auxiliary and is the button to control your DVR. After pushing one of those buttons, you can control that device using the bottons on your Comcast remote control.

Features

The controls on the Comcast remote control for the television are basic. All you need to adjust on the television are the power and the volume. The channel control buttons can be used to control the cable box moving channels up or down one at a time by pressing the plus or minus buttons, or you can type the channel in directly on the notepad. With three-digit channel numbers, you must hit the "Ok" button after typing in a two digit number or enter zero before the two digits for the channel. You can even access the"On Demand" options of videos Comcast offers for free or purchase by pressing the button that says "On Demand" and scroll using the plus and minus buttons while making selections with the "Ok" button.

The DVR can be controlled just like a typical TIVO unit. You can play, rewind or fast forward a recorded show. You can also set up a recording using your Comcast remote control by pressing the record button.

Types

Comcast has created one standard remote control. Even subscribers who do not have the DVR box have the DVR buttons on their remote control to allow them to keep their same controls if they upgrade to DVR boxes.

Warning

Do not lose your Comcast remote control. Many people get rid of their television remote controls once they have the all-in-one remote control from Comcast. If you lose it, you will have to control both your cable and television manually from the units. A replacement remote control from Comcast is not cheap--they charge $25 per remote control. This is also the cost if you fail to return your Comcast remote control if you cancel your service.
