Starting any type of business is a big step and comes with many important decisions. Opening a photography business comes with its own set of decisions. Naming the photography business is one of the most important decisions when beginning the process of setting up your company. The business name should be easily remembered, and should not be in use by any other business. It may also reflect the personality of the owner or owners.

1. Decide what kind of photography business you are going to open. A photography studio will allow different names than a photography business, in which you sell cameras and equipment. You might even offer printing services or you may specialize in weddings or senior pictures instead of general photography.
2. Choose the personality you would like your photography business to have. Is your photography going to be more of a formal portrait studio or will you take mostly outdoor and somewhat quirky shots? Do you want to sell photography equipment with young upbeat salespeople or older, more experienced amateur photographers? Deciding on a personality could make it easier when it comes to naming your photography business.
3. Use your own name. This may be important if you are a photographer and would like people to connect your work with your name. You may want to use your last name only or you may use your full name, such as "John Smith Photography" or "Smith Photography Equipment."
4. Draw on events or people in your life for a name. If you take mostly nature images, you may want to name your business after your favorite flower or bird. Someone who enjoys sports photography may name their business something along the lines of "Slam Dunk Photography Supplies." Your passion or favorite hobby could become the name of your business.
5. Ask friends and family for their opinion. You may find that the name you enjoy so much is hard to pronounce or too long. If the people around you have trouble with the name of your business then so will prospective customers.
6. Search for the name on the Internet. Determine if the name you have chosen is in use by another company or trademarked. You may not want to use a name that is common among other business, photography or not, as potential customers may become confused as to what type of business you are.
