In this day and age, keeping an eye on things while you're not around can be imperative to you and your loved-ones safety. All too often, things such as child and elder abuse or adultery or theft can happen in your own home without you even knowing it, and until recently, you could be left in the dark. However, today's hidden micro cams and mics make it possible to peek in on situations in your home to make sure there's no funny business going on. One of the easiest and most popular places to hide a mic and cam is in the smoke alarm. Note: This is for home use only. Look into your state's privacy laws to make sure what you're doing is legal. Instructions
Installing Hidden Camcorders and Microphones in Smoke Detectors
1. Remove the smoke detector from your wall or ceiling using your Philips head screw driver. You can leave the base that the smoke detector hooks into on the wall if you plan on keeping your smoke detector in its original space. However, you may need to move the base to another spot on the wall or ceiling to ensure that your micro camcorder will have an optimal line of vision to capture video.
2. Insert the microphone's jacks into the micro camcorder's audio input outlet. You'll now be able to hear sound with your video, or will now have better quality sound to go with it.
3. Connect the receiver to your television if your micro camcorder came with a receiver. You do this by first finding the cable with two jacks on the end that came with your receiver. Plug one jack into your receiver's output and plug the other end into an open input outlet on your TV. Turn on both your receiver and TV, making sure your TV source is set to the input station you plugged your receiver in (eg, your DVD player is plugged into an input, and you need to switch on to that "station" or input on your TV in order to see your DVD play). If you don't have a receiver for your micro camcorder, you will have to connect your camcorder directly to a viewable source, such as a TV or computer. 4. Plug your micro camcorder into your smoke detector's source of energy, which is a cable with jack on the end, if the camera doesn't run off of it's own batteries. You might also plug the camcorder into an outlet. Once your camcorder is connected, you will get a live feed on your TV if you have a receiver.
5. Tuck the camcorder and microphone into the smoke detector, making sure the lens of the camcorder is placed at an opening so that it can see beyond the inside of the smoke detector. Screw the smoke detector back onto the wall or ceiling.
