Instructions For A Dxg Video Camera

DXG is a relative newcomer to the U.S. digital camcorder market. The Taiwanese company has been around in the Asian market since 1988. It did not come to the United States until 2004, when it set up manufacturing operations in California. DXG makes a wide range of HD camcorders, all of which function in similar ways and with the same controls.

Instructions

1. Unpack the contents of the box and make sure to keep the USB/AV cable, power cord, lithium ion battery, battery charger and CD-ROM handy, as you'll need them all to get the camera up and running. Look at the top of the camera in the slimmer models or on the back for the more traditional, hand-held camcorders for the SD card slot cover, which is labeled "SD." Put your fingernail under the raised end and pull gently to open the cover. Insert an SD card with the contacts facing down -- toward the close-up zoom icon -- and push into place until you hear a click. Close the card slot.

2. Charge the battery. It may have a bit of a residual charge from the factory, but it's best to charge it fully before using the camera for the first time. Insert the battery into the provided charger and plug the AC power cord into the side of the charger, then into a wall socket. The LED light on the charger glows red while the battery charges, then turns solid green when the battery has a full charge, usually after about two hours. Open the battery cover, which is located under the LCD, when folded, on the slim models and in the base of the camera on the larger models. Insert the battery.

3. Press the power button or open the LCD screen to turn the camera on. Closing the screen turns off the camera on flip models, so be careful. By default, the camera is in video mode, but you can change the mode by pressing the "Mode" button to toggle through photo capture and menu modes. The first time you turn on the camera you will be prompted to enter the time and date; tap the touch-screen LCD to adjust settings, then touch "OK" or press the "Enter" button when the information is correct.

4. Look through the LCD to frame your shot. Zoom in and out by sliding the zoom level right and left. Press the "Rec/Stop" button to begin recording and press it a second time to finish recording. Press the "Playback" button to enter review mode, then tap the play button in the middle of the LCD screen to play the video.

5. Turn the DXG camcorder off and then connect it to your PC, using the provided USB portion of the USB/AV cable. Turn the camera on and wait while Windows configures the device. Click "Transfer videos to my computer using Windows" to copy files to your computer, or simply browse to the device in Computer to copy files manually.
