Help With A Microsd Card In A Samsung Phone

Help With a MicroSD Card in a Samsung Phone

Samsung designs its phones with multimedia features that extend the phone's functionality beyond calling and messaging. You can listen to music, watch videos, play games, and take pictures and video with the extra features added to some Samsung phones. Though Samsung phones have internal memory to store your files, you can expand the memory with a microSD card.

Inserting the Card

Samsung mobile phones come in several different models with different designs. The location of the microSD card slot depends on the model. Refer to your phone's instruction manual for more information. If you do not have access to your phone's instruction manual, check the right, left, top and bottom sides of the phone. The microSD card slot has a plastic or rubber cover with "microSD" written on it. Pull the cover off the slot and insert the microSD card with the gold contacts facing down and in. You will hear a click when the card is fully inserted into the phone. Place the cover back over the slot to secure the card.

If you cannot locate the microSD card slot on any of the sides of the phone, open the battery compartment and remove the battery. The microSD card slot may be located within the battery compartment. Slide the memory card into the slot with the contacts facing up, replace the battery and reattach the battery cover. You are now ready to use the phone with the microSD card.

Connecting to a Computer

You can use the microSD card in your Samsung phone as a mass storage device. In order to place files onto the card, you need to connect the phone to a computer. To connect the phone and the computer, plug the smaller end of a Samsung USB data cable into the data jack on your phone. Connect the other end of the cable to a USB jack on your computer. Your computer will recognize the phone and list it as a removable storage device.

Transferring Files

Once your Samsung phone is connected to your computer, you can transfer files from the computer to your phone or from the phone to your computer. To access the microSD card, open "My Computer" on your computer and locate your phone under the "Devices With Removable Storage" list. Double-click on the phone's drive to open the microSD card's directory.

Once opened, transferring files onto and off of the card is similar to moving files on the computer. Click on the file you want to add to the microSD card and drag it into the phone drive. A status bar will appear on the screen while the file transfers. The number and size of the files you are transferring will determine the amount of time it takes. Use the same drag-and-drop method to transfer from your card to your computer.
