How do I Install XM With an Original Radio?
XM satellite radio receivers allow users access to hundreds of crystal-clear radio stations that are unavailable using standard radio receivers. Users can set up these receivers to replace radios in their home, office or car. Some users, however, want to keep their existing radio tuners in their car. An XM satellite radio receiver can be installed in your car in a few simple steps, without removing your standard car radio.
Instructions
1. Locate where you want your XM radio receiver to be mounted inside your car. Thoroughly clean the surface of the location with the cleaning cloths included in your XM car kit.
2. Remove the adhesive liner from the back of the swivel mount. Make sure the mount is straight and firmly press it onto the surface for at least 30 seconds. Allow the adhesive to dry for 24 hours before using the swivel mount.
3. Locate where you would like your XM antenna to be mounted on the outside of your car. Choose a location that is a near a window to minimize the amount of wire exposed on your vehicle. Thoroughly clean the surface of the location with the cleaning cloths included in your XM car kit.
4. Remove the adhesive liner from the back of the antenna. Firmly press the antenna onto the of your car for at least 60 seconds. Allow 24 hours for the adhesive to dry before driving your vehicle.
5. Place your XM receiver on the swivel mount. Plug one end of the power adapter into the port marked "Power" on your XM receiver and the other end into the cigarette lighter or power port in your vehicle. Plug the cord attached to the antenna into the port marked "Antenna" on your XM receiver. Plug one end of the auxiliary cord that came with your car kit into the port marked "Output" on your XM receiver and the other end into the auxiliary port on your car radio. Alternately, you may use a cassette adapter to have the output go through your cassette tape deck or an FM receiver adapter to channel the XM radio through one of your regular radio stations.
6. Turn on your car stereo and select either auxiliary, tape mode or FM mode, depending on which output you used for your XM receiver. Turn on your XM receiver and select a station. You should now hear XM radio through your car's stereo system.
