CNET called the JVC GR-D850 a good value for the money.
The JVC GR-D850 compact camcorder shoots digital video in 16:9 widescreen or 4:3 format, both of which it records to a Mini-DV tape. This camcorder weighs less than a pound, features a 35x optical zoom, 800x digital zoom and can operate for up to two hours on the included rechargeable battery. Users can replay video on the GR-D850's 2.7" diagonal monitor, which flips out for viewing during shooting and playback. Because of its specifications and low price, the product reviewing site CNET said the GR-D850 offers "great features for the money."
