Hook Up a TV/DVD Surround System
If you are looking to save space in a room, you may want to opt for a TV/DVD combo. These sets have both devices built into one electronic piece and will save you from using so many cables because you will no longer need to hook up the DVD player to your television. This option does not, however, prevent you from connecting a surround sound system.
Instructions
1. Set the amplifier of the surround sound system near the TV/DVD set. This usually marks the center location for the surround sound system. Plug the amplifier into an available power outlet.
2. Plug the red and white RCA cables into the "Audio In" port on the rear of the amplifier. The red and white RCA cables provide the audio signals from the television.
3. Connect the other end of the RCA cables into the "Audio Out" port on the rear of the TV/DVD combo.
4. Power on both the television and the surround sound system. Because the TV and DVD are in the same device, you can use the surround sound system while both watching a movie or just television programming (not all TV programming supports surround sound playback).
