Hook Up An Equalizer With A Surround Sound Amp

Hook Up an Equalizer With a Surround Sound Amp

An equalizer connects with an audio system to shape the sound across a range of frequencies using sliding controls. Standard RCA-type audio cables are used to connect the equalizer to the amplifier in a surround-sound system. The amp's tape-monitor function sends the audio signal from the amp to the equalizer for adjustment and then sends it back to the amplifier, which in turn sends the signal on to the surround-sound speakers. The connections take less than a minute.

Instructions

1. Connect one set of audio cables to the equalizer's input jacks, using the white plug for the left audio jack and the red plug for the right jack.

2. Insert the plugs on the other end into the amplifier's Tape Monitor OUT jacks.

3. Connect a second set of audio cables to the amplifier's Tape Monitor IN jacks and plug the other ends into the equalizer's audio OUT jacks, using the same color codes to match cables to jacks.

4. Press the "Tape Monitor" button on the amp and turn on the equalizer.

5. Play back an audio source such as a CD or Blu-Ray disc and adjust the slide controls on the equalizer to your personal preferences.
