Keep Ink Jet Ink From Drying Out
A common problem with the ink jet printers is the cartridge ink drying out when the printer is not used frequently. A lot of people print a page at least three times a week to prevent the ink from clogging. If you are not going to use your ink jet printer for more than a week, follow the steps below to store the ink cartridges and save them from drying out.
Instructions
1. Remove the ink cartridges from the ink jet printer by following the directions from your printer manual. If you do not have the printer manual, try to get the manual or the instructions on removing the cartridges from the manufacturer's website. Remove all the cartridges from the printer, including the color ink cartridges if present.
2. Cover the cartridge openings with a tape. The cartridges have two small holes called the breather hole and the delivery hole. These are easily visible when the cartridges are taken out.
3. Place the black and the color cartridges in separate air-tight bags. You can label the bags as "black" and "color" with the date for reference.
4. Store the bags in the refrigerator. The tape prevents the air entry into the cartridges and keeps the ink from drying out. Storing the cartridge in the refrigerator reduces color degradation.
