If you own a Sony PSP, then you probably know that it is capable of playing videos recorded in MPEG4 format. You may have even downloaded some videos onto your PSP from the Internet. But did you know that it is possible to record television shows and movies straight off your TV and watch them on your PSP? All you need is a memory stick big enough to hold your video and an MPEG4 video recorder connected to your TV. These recorders are moderately priced and work very much like a VCR.
Instructions
1. Get yourself an MPEG4 recorder. These units are sold online and at some major electronics stores. The two most common brands are Neuros and Sandisk. Both units accept Memory Stick Pro Duo cards. Alternatively, some of the newer Tivo units also have a built in MPEG 4 recorder with a slot for MS Pro Duo memory cards.
2. Study the user's manual of your device, and learn work its specific interface. These documents may even include specific instructions for recording for playback on the PSP. All of these devices have a menu system that works through the screen of your TV. Each of them also has its own unique remote control.
3. Set your device to record in the MPEG4 format. Some of these devices record only in MPEG4. Some of them may record in other formats as well.
4. Set your device to record in a resolution appropriate for the PSP. The PSP accepts recordings in both 320 x 240, and 368 x 208 (the former being for full screen programs and the latter for widescreen).
5. Follow your device's instructions for using the timer to record while you are away. This works similarly to an old-fashioned VCR. If you are using Tivo, they you have a much wider array of options.
6. Once you are finished watching a recording, you can delete it either through the recorder, or through the PSP.
