In areas where cable television service is either unavailable or unreliable, satellite television service is a wonderful solution. As long as you have a clear view of the southwestern sky, you will have no problem receiving crystal clear, full digital television. This article explains hook up DirecTV after the dish has been installed and the cable line run into the home.
Instructions
1. Take your DirecTV access card and write down the serial number on a piece of paper. You will need the number later when you call to have it activated. Slide the access card into the slot on either the front or rear (depending on the slot's location) of your DirecTV set top box.
2. Take the cable line that is delivered into the home from the satellite dish and connect it to the "Satellite In" port on the back of your receiver.
3. The receiver may also include a port for an antenna hookup. If you are also using one, connect that line to the port labeled "In From ANT."
4. Take a length of cable and connect one end to the port labeled "Out to TV" on the back of your receiver. Connect the other end to the back side of your television.
5. Plug the receiver in and turn both the satellite receiver and the television on. Tune the TV to channel 3 or 4 on your television. On one or the other, you will see the DirecTV start-up screen.
6. You may be prompted to hook up a phone line to the receiver. If so, connect the phone line to the port on the back of the receiver. Once your account is up and running, you can remove the phone line (unless you want to purchase pay-per-view movies).
7. With your system connected, call (800) DIRECTV to activate your access card. Once complete, you can enjoy your DirecTV satellite television service.
