Use your camcorder to reach a global audience.
One way to spread your views and opinions with others is to start your own Web broadcast and stream live video footage around the world. It is possible to use a Web camera to broadcast yourself. However, using a camcorder results in more professional footage. With a camcorder, you also have the ability to use different lenses, along with the camera's "zoom" feature. To stream live video from a camcorder, you need a broadband Internet connection, a computer and compatible USB cables.
Instructions
1. Install video broadcasting software onto your computer. There are several online resources, such as UStream and LiveStream, that allow you to download and install broadcasting software for free. Alternatively, use online resources, such as Just In TV, Blog TV and StickAM, that do not require a software download.
2. Open the broadcasting software program. Walk through the setup wizard to create a new account and broadcasting channel.
3. Install an RTMP (Real Time Messaging Protocol) publishing application onto your computer. This application ensures your video streams remain stable and steady, even during excessive drops in bandwidth. Examples of RTMP publishing software available to download and install for free as of the date of publication include Adobe Flash Media Live Encoder, Vidblaster, Tricaster and Wirecast.
4. Place your camcorder on a tripod to keep it stable. To prevent dark video footage, position the camera in a room that is well-lit.
5. Plug one end of your USB cable into the camcorder's USB port. Plug the other end of the cable into your computer's USB port. If your camcorder has a VGA port instead of a USB port, you can still connect it to your computer via a VGA cable.
If your computer does not have a VGA port, purchase a VGA-to-USB converter from a local electronics retailer. This allows you to plug the VGA cable into your computer's USB port.
6. Open the RTMP application on your computer. Configure the video streaming settings to high quality. The exact method to configure your settings vary by application.
7. Power on your camcorder. Ensure you are in a room that is well-lit, as your video footage will appear too dark otherwise.
8. Start broadcasting your live video. To do this, click the broadcast button, located within the broadcasting software program. The button may read "Go Live," "Broadcast Now" or "Broadcast," depending upon the software you are using.
