Shoot The Stars With Digital Cameras

You may need to adjust settings on your digital camera to take pictures of stars.

When you take pictures of stars in the night sky with a digital camera, you may notice that the photos often come out blurry and not properly focused. This is because you are not taking advantage of all of the settings available on your camera. By adjusting the aperture level and shutter speed, you can start taking clear pictures of stars in the sky.

Instructions

1. Check your camera's manual to find out if it has a night sky mode built-in to the device. Some models include this feature, which will automatically adjust your camera's settings appropriately to take pictures of stars in the sky at night.

2. Disable the automatic focus option on your camera.

3. Set the shutter speed option on your camera to the longest setting possible. This will increase the exposure time and allow your camera to capture the image of even dim stars in the sky.

4. Manually adjust the aperture priority setting to the lowest number possible. This will open the aperture and allow more light to gather in the sensor.

5. Position your camera in an area where you can see the entire sky and are not blocked by trees or other objects.

6. Turn off any nearby lights and bright objects.

7. Use a tripod stand. Since you are using a long shutter setting, the camera must stay still for a long period of time in order to capture a clear picture of the night sky. If you hold the camera in your hands and move or shake, your picture of the stars will come out blurry.

8. Use a remote controle with your camera. This will further prevent camera shake; you will depress the remote control button to take the picture rather than pressing the shutter button on top of your camera, which could compromise the focus and exposure.
