Cda 9886 Vs Cda 9887

The CDA-9886 and CDA-9887 are head units with 50-watt-by-4 maximum power output for car stereo systems manufactured by Alpine Electronics, Inc. Although both unites are part of the same series, the CDA-9887 is the more advanced of the two.

Playback Features

The CDA-9886 and CDA-9887 are designed to play audio CDs, with CD-R and CD-RW compatibility. MP3, AAC and WMA are the digital audio file formats that can be played in these Alpine devices. The 9886 and 9887 also have display for CD titles and songs.

Radio

The CDA-9886 and CDA-9887 have radios with AM/FM tuners. The FM tuner has 12 pre-set stations, while the AM tuner has six. They are HD and satellite radio-ready, however, with the requirements of an Alpine TUA-T500HD tuner and SIRIUS/XM adapter, respectively.

Bluetooth and External Audio Sources

The head units are also compatible with Bluetooth technology, with features such as streaming music playback and control, hands-free calling and phone book transfer. iPod Classics, iPod Minis and iPod Nanos, as well as iPhones can be hooked up to the 9886 and 9887 using Alpine's KCE-422i connection cable.

IMPRINT

Alpine adds the IMPRINT Sound feature to the CDA-9887. This equalization technology is designed to improve the car stereo system's sound stage, tonal balance and definition. Owners of the 9887 would need to buy the IMPRINT Sound Manager software dubbed the KTX-100EQ---which costs around $250---to activate the feature. Owners of the 9886 can purchase the PXA-H100 audio processor to make the head unit IMPRINT compatible, but that would cost them an additional $180.

Price

The Alpine CDA-9886 has a manufacturer's suggested retail price of $350. Mainly due to the enhancement of the CDA-9887 with the IMPRINT feature, it has a higher MSRP---at $450. Prices are as of 2010.
