SD cards are physically small, but they can store thousands of image files.


Measuring roughly the size of a postage stamp and smaller, SD cards look tiny, but don't let size fool you. The storage capacities of SD -- secure digital -- cards range from the meager 8MB starter cards initially sold with digital cameras to sizable 2TB cards, as of 2011. Standard Card Types


Three types of cards dominate the standard SD format as of 2011. These include standard SD, microSD and miniSD. All three have the capability to store up to 2GB of data. The cards range in physical size to fit inside electronic devices of varying sizes, including digital cameras and cellphones. The largest of the three -- the standard SD card -- measures 24mm x 32mm x 2.1mm. A miniSD card measures just 37 percent of the size of a standard SD card, while a microSD card comes in at approximately 25 percent of the standard card's size.


High-Capacity Series


As manufacturers develop cameras with increasing resolution options, digital media storage cards follow suit. The SD Association's high-capacity line of SD cards offer digital photographers up to 32GB of storage space without increasing the physical card size. The high capacity cards carry the "HC" distinction, making the abbreviation for a standard-size high-capacity SD card SDHC. The two physically smaller cards carry the names miniSDHC and microSDHC. HC series cards only work with devices designed to handle the card's increased storage capabilities.


Massive SD Storage


If your photo storage needs exceed 32GB per card, the "XC" series of SD cards provide even larger storage solutions. SDXC, MiniSDXC and MicroSDXC cards store a maximum of 2TB of data in the same physical card sizes as those of the previous series. As of 2011, the XC series of SD cards store the largest quantity of data in the SD card lineup. XC-series cards only function in devices labeled for compatibility with XC technology.


Image Quality and Storage


Image quality settings -- including resolution and compression -- on your photo capturing device determine how many actual photos you can store on your SD card. If you're capturing high resolution photos with very little compression applied you will fit fewer images on your SD card than you can using lower image quality settings. For example, if you use a 10MP compact digital camera set to the highest resolution and lowest compression settings, you can record approximately 750 photos on a standard 2GB SD card. Other factors such as amount of image detail, colors, exposure and lighting also affect a photo's file size, making SD card storage capacity numbers estimates, not exact numbers.

Developed by Kodak as the heir to standard 8mm film, Super 8 is second only to 35mm as the most-used film format of all time.


History


Kodak first introduced Super 8 film in 1965, and it enjoyed a long run as the most popular format for home movies. It held that distinction until VHS camcorders rose to popularity in the 1980s and '90s.


Film Size


Whereas standard 8mm film is actually 16mm wide and runs through a camera twice, Super 8 film is 8mm wide and runs through once. This, in addition to smaller sprocket holes, allows Super 8 to capture a larger image than standard 8.








Convenience


Super 8 film comes in a cartridge format for easy camera loading and unloading.


Cost








As of January 2010, it costs about $35 to buy a 50-foot roll of Super 8 film and get it developed.


Sound


Although there were several Super 8 cameras designed to capture sound as well as images, Super 8 sound film is no longer manufactured, rendering the technology obsolete. Most people today record the sound on a DAT (digital audo tape recorder), an MP3 recorder, or a microphone mounted on a boom pole.

What Kind Of Cables Come With An Infocus Lp130 Projector

Projectors, once used mainly in business and educational settings, have become more popular in homes as personal entertainment systems. Modern projectors are developed to handle a selection of popular video formats including DVI, VESA, S-video and composite. The InFocus LP130 projector includes two cables for video input and one power cable.








Analog Cable


The InFocus LP130 comes bundled with an M1-DA DVI cable with additional USB attachment. This cable is used for attaching the LP130 to a computer. The cable has three ends, an M1 DVI connector, a VESA connector and a USB connector. The M1 connector plugs directly into the projector. The VESA connector plugs into the monitor port on a laptop or desktop computer and is responsible for transmitting the video signal to the projector. How Do Lithium Ion Batteries Work

Features


A lithium ion battery is a design that generates electricity through the movement of lithium ions between the cathode and anode. Lithium ion batteries are rechargeable and offer one of the best power-to-weight ratios of any existing battery design.


Chemistry


Most batteries of this design use graphite as the anode. The cathode is typically made from either lithium cobalt oxide, lithium iron phosphate or lithium manganese oxide. The choice of cathode is usually based on the balance between voltage, capacity and charge deterioration. Safety is also an issue, as some mishandled lithium ion battery designs have been known to explode. Electrical current is generated by the migration of the lithium ion from the anode to the cathode, and the reverse when it is being recharged. The electrolyte, or medium between the anode and cathode, is usually a solid lithium salt plus an organic solvent.








Decay


One of the problems with a lithium ion battery is that, unlike other battery designs, it is prone to shelf decay whether it is used or not. While the design is rechargeable, from the time of manufacture a lithium ion battery gradually loses its capacity. The amount of charge it can hold steadily shrinks. If kept fully charged and at room temperature, a lithium ion battery will lose 1/4 of its capacity every year.

Instructions


1. Insert the battery into the battery compartment. The battery compartment door is usually on the side or bottom of the camera. Load the batteries in the correct direction. Dead batteries or batteries loaded incorrectly will prevent the camera from working.


2. Insert a compatible memory card. The memory card slot may be under the same door as the battery compartment or it may have its own door. If the card is full, or it is not inserted properly, it can't record information.


3. Turn on the camera. Point-and-shoot cameras may have a lens cover that you manually move either to the side or down. Press the cover gently and move it into the open position. Some cameras may have a lens cap that you remove completely, such as the DSC D700.


4. Adjust the mode to the correct shooting position. For example, set the mode to "Auto" or choose a different shooting mode.








5. Press the shutter button down halfway so the camera can adjust the focus and exposure. Green brackets or lights will appear in the viewfinder or the LCD screen when the camera is ready. Press the button down the rest of the way to take a picture.

Remove The Factory Radio From A Toyota 4runner







The Toyota 4Runner SUV comes equipped with a factory stereo system. But audio aficionados who want to upgrade their stereo system will often remove the factory radio and replace it with a higher-performance aftermarket car stereo. Removal of the factory radio is the essential first element of this upgrade process. By doing it yourself, you can save the time and money involved in having a car audio shop remove the radio.


Instructions


1. Take any media, like CDs or cassettes, out of your factory radio, and turn off the power to the radio.


2. Open the door to the center console, and from inside it, pry up the trim panel that surrounds the gear shifter. As it comes loose, you'll see a wiring harness connected to it. Disconnect this.


3. Pry up the remainder of the console trim and remove it.


4. Open the small storage pocket above the center console and remove the phillips screw on the top edge of the opening.


5. Take out the 10mm bolts on the lower right and left side corners of the driver's knee panel. This is the panel underneath the steering wheel.


6. Pry out the knee panel until it is loose. Unhook the wiring harnesses on the left side of the panel, and let the panel hang loose--it's not necessary to completely remove it.








7. Look on the lower left side of the trimpanel surrounding the receiver for a 10mm bolt--this area is exposed now that knee panel is lowered. Remove the 10mm bolt.


8. Pry out the climate control panel below the radio. You will see two 10mm bolts, remove them.


9. Pry all the way around the receiver's trim panel. As the panel comes loose, disconnect any wiring harnesses attached to it.


10. Locate two 10mm screws on either side of the radio. Take them out and the radio will slide out of the cavity. Disconnect the wiring plug on the back and remove.

Vfd Work

Introduction


A variable frequency drive (VFD) is an electrical variable speed drive that is added to motor-driven systems to help save energy. Motor-driven systems are designed to handle peak loads. When these operating systems work for extended periods of time at a reduced load, it wastes energy. Adding a VFD allows you to adjust the motor-speed capability and match it with motor-output load. This is how it saves energy. The motor-driven system is connected to the VFD and allows you to have speed control by changing the frequency of the motor-supply voltage.








Function


A motor-driven system is controlled by the frequency of the supply voltage and rotates on a fixed speed. An alternating current that is applied produces a magnetic field that rotates at synchronous speed. The only way to alternate synchronous speed is through a VFD, which converts the power in three stages. In the rectifier stage, the power is converted to a higher adjustable DC voltage. In the inverter stage, the power transistors in the rectified DC are switched off and on. This produces a voltage waveform at the frequency you want. In the control system, the voltage waveform receives information from the motor-driven system and will adjust the output voltage to the selected value.


Benefits








The benefit of a VFD is that you can control of the process temperature without using a separate controller. This will lower maintenance costs and lower the operating speed, allowing a longer life span for your motor. There is no need to use a soft starter anymore, and the controlled speed will eliminate any water-hammer problems. The ability of a VFD to control the torque in the motor-driven system protects equipment that can't tolerate excessive torque.

7. Begin the recording process, following the instructions of your application. After you start playing the VCR, the software will reproduce the image from your VHS tape in a window on your monitor. You then press a "record" button to capture the desired footage. If necessary, use the VCR controls to rewind or fast forward through the tape to find what you want to record. Be sure to pay close attention to the window during the recording process in case your computer crashes or if the RCA connection falters.

The Canon 20D digital SLR camera is a "prosumer" camera aimed at the advanced amateur to professional photographer. It allows the photographer to customize many functions that aren't always available in consumer digital cameras. One of those features is the focus lock, which lets the photographer lock the focus on a subject and recompose the frame while keeping the subject still in focus.


Instructions








1. Turn on the camera. Press the menu button, and spin the big dial on the right side of the LCD to select the custom function. It is the orange wrench selection near the bottom of the menu. Once you select, it press "Set."


2. Spin the big dial until you select custom function 04. Press the "Set" button to select that function.


3. Select number 2 under custom function 04. Press "Set" to save the change. This custom function setting causes "*" button to lock the focus of the camera when it is pressed.








4. Aim the camera at the subject you want to take a picture of, and adjust the focus. Halfway press down on the shutter button, and press the "*" button to lock the focus on the subject. You can now recompose the picture and keep the subject in focus.


5. Completely press down on the shutter button to take a picture using the focus lock.

Frame Your Video Shots Effectively

Each shot you take must make sense if your video is going to make sense. Frame your pictures well and the quality of your shooting will improve immensely.


Instructions


1. Make use of all the area in your viewfinder so that you fill the frame with picture.


2. Avoid putting the "good stuff" in the center of the frame, surrounded by a margin of picture where nothing of interest is happening.


3. Split your picture into segments: Make each complement the other.


4. Make each picture have a central focal point. Position yourself so the impact of that focal point is enhanced by other elements of the picture.


5. Use dutch angles sparingly; they should only be used for special effects, and then rarely.

9. Decide which direction you want to have the action flowing, and then stick to that decision throughout your shooting session.








10. Aim your camera so you don't cut off people's heads or shoes. Or frame so the head is in the top half of your shot, and let the bottom frame line cut off your subjects at the waist.


11. Make every shot look as if you planned it to be that way - not careless and accidental. You can cover a multitude of sins this way.

Photography And Different Lighting Types







Photography can be fun and artistic, but lighting will make or break a picture.








Photography is the art of capturing light to make images. Light is the key component in any picture, and there are many variations on lighting and light a photograph. Even though there are an infinite number of ways to light a photograph, there are four basic kinds of lighting. Many photographers even blend different kinds of lighting for different effects. Experimentation is the key to finding the best style for a given situation.


Natural Light


This is an example of natural light where the sun has been reflected onto the subject's face.


Natural light is the most common use of lighting in a photograph. The best natural light is typically sunlight, though most photographers like to bring down the harshness by shading or reflecting the light onto the subject. Natural light can also encompass existing light from fixtures in a room which have not been moved to change the light. Natural light can create dramatic effects, but the most important technique when using natural light is to position the subject appropriately.


Flash Photography


Early photographers used a flash simply to get an image on the less sensitive film stock of their day.


Flash photography lighting is the effect of using a flash or additional lights synced with the camera's shutter. This kind of light can add a slight retro feel to photos, but more often is used to "freeze action." The shutter controls the amount of motion blur in a picture, and by adding more light the shutter can move faster, reducing the blur but still exposing the film properly. Most photographers prefer not to use the camera flash because frontal lighting tends to flatten out facial features.


Glamor Light


This commercial shot illustrates how glamor lighting is used in advertising campaigns.


Glamor lighting is commonly used in commercial and editorial photography. It provides even skin tones and gives the subject an excellent eye-light. Eye-lights are important because the eyes are the window to the soul and without an eye-light the eyes can look lifeless. Some glamor lighting requires very expensive lights and equipment; however, amateur photographers can achieve a glamor lighting look by creating an inexpensive ring light -- a ring made up of lights. Take a round piece of plywood, cut it into a large circle, measure the lens of the camera and cut out a circle in the middle slightly larger than the lens. Affix incandescent fixtures to the ring (these are available at any hardware story) and connect them to a power source and bulbs. The camera will not hold the ring light because of the weight, but there are various ways to engineer a stand for a ring light. Experimentation is the best way to find a solution for a particular situation.


Filmic Lighting


Filmic lighting is based off the lighting used in movies. Sometimes the lights will not even be synced with the shutter and will remain constant light sources. Filmic lighting makes use of three primary lights: key, fill and back lights. The key light is the main light for the subject and lights the dominate side of the face. It is usually the most powerful light. The fill light is much weaker and is sometimes only a reflection of the key light. It lights the dark side of the face just a bit so there is still detail. The key-to-fill ratio describes the amount of key light vs. the amount of fill. If there is significantly more key than fill, the photo appears more dramatic. When key and fill lights become closer to having the same amount, the light appears more commercial and less dramatic. The backlight is sometimes called a "kicker" because it helps to "kick" the subject off the background and create foreground-background separation.

Instructions


1. Plug in your power supply into your camera and then into the power outlet. Do not use the battery. Power up your video camera. If your camera uses a tape, insert your tape.

Parts Of Infrared Detectors

Animals generate heat in the form of infrared radiation. While this heat can be detected naturally through physical touch, infrared radiation is associated with a wavelength of the electromagnetic spectrum that is not visible to the naked eye. Infrared detectors, however, are devices that use sophisticated components -- such as lenses, beam splitters and pyroelectric sensors -- that, when combined, give us a visual representation of the heat generated by animals and objects. Infrared Windows


Composite infrared windows are composed of a polyethylene plastic film attached to a thin silicon substrate. The window provides an external particle impact absorbing layer that is transparent to long wave radiation. If the infrared detector is being used outdoors, it is important that the infrared window be enclosed in a weatherproof casing.








Fresnel Lenses


A Fresnel lens is a Plano convex lens that has been distorted to form a flat lens. Although the lens still maintains its optical characteristics, it is much thinner and, consequently, bears less absorption losses when used in infrared detectors.


Wedge Filters


A wedge filter is an optical filter specifically constructed so that its thickness gradually increases. Wedge filters are used in infrared detectors to modify the intensity of dispersion of radiation beams.


Mirrors








Within infrared detectors, multifaceted mirrors collect infrared radiation and focus it on a single sensing element. Each facet of each mirror should have a concave surface that is oriented to collect radiation from a specific field of view and reflect it onto the sensing element.


Beam Splitters


A beam splitter is an optical instrument that splits a beam of light in two. Infrared beam splitters are typically made out of zinc selenide substrates and then coated with dielectric materials that reflect and transmit extremely short wavelengths.


Pyroelectric Sensors


Pyroelectric sensors are composed of a crystalline material that produces an electric charge on its surface when exposed to thermal radiation. As the amount of radiation contacting the crystal changes, the amount of charge also changes. This difference in charge can be measured by special field-effect transistors (FET) located within the sensor.

Greenish or discolored patches that appear in the picture on your television screen are usually the result of magnetic fields that are disrupting the television's normal functioning. They are only visible when the television is on and are most obvious when the screen is all one color, such as blue or bright red. Fortunately, these blurry green spots do not permanently affect the television and can be corrected by locating and removing the source of the magnetic field.

1. First, look for the source of the problem. Large speakers, especially older ones, are the most common offenders. Notice the position of the green spot on the screen (left, right, upper, lower, etc.) for an indication of which direction the magnetic field is coming from.

Connect The Sony Dvpc660 Cd/Dvd Player To A Tv

6. Use a composite video cable if your TV does not support either S-video or component video. Connect one end of the composite video cable to a Video Out jack on the Sony DVP-C660 CD/DVD player and connect the other end to the video input jack on your television.








7. Turn on the television and your Sony DVP-C660 CD/DVD player. Place a DVD in the player and hit Play to check your connections.

Schedule An Independent Film Shoot

Properly scheduling your film shoot can help you save time and money


Independent filmmakers face special challenges that mainstream filmmakers do not. Most independent filmmakers have small budgets, which can cause trouble when shooting brings up unexpected expenses. Because many members of the cast and crew will be working on multiple projects at once, it can be difficult to find times when everyone necessary to shoot a scene is available. Creating a firm shooting schedule based on the availability of your cast and crew can help assuage these difficulties and potentially help you save money.


Instructions


1. Create a shooting script by breaking down all pieces of the script based on location. Include the number of pages for each scene that takes place in the location, the actors or characters who are in the scene, and any lighting, make-up or special-effects crew members whose presence is required. Further divide the locations by interiors and exteriors.


2. Contact all of your cast and crew members and ask them to provide you with a schedule of their availability during the month or months of shooting. Request that the dates are final, so you don't have to make any last minute changes to the schedule. Outline the days and times that your cast and crew are available or mark it on a calendar.


3. Contact any people who may be responsible for providing you access to your locations and ask them to provide the dates that these locations are available, if possible. Mark these dates on your calendar.


4. Begin with the first location and select the best date and time to shoot at this location based on the availability of your cast and crew and the location itself. Generally, it takes a day to shoot five to seven pages, but allow plenty of time for setting up and breaking down, particularly with interior sets that require lighting. Repeat this process with all of the locations until all of the scenes of the film have been assigned a date for shooting.


5. Schedule shooting in interior locations as a back-up option for days when exterior locations unexpectedly cannot be used, such as in cases of bad weather, if possible.


6. Type up this schedule and save a draft on your hard drive, or transfer your shooting schedule onto a calendar template. Email it to all members of your cast and crew.

Eight-millimeter video cameras arrived after the era of large, shoulder-mounted VHS video cameras and before the debut of mini-DV cameras. Automotive Lithium Battery Safety

Lithium batteries appear to be safe for automotive use.








Since the early 1990s, lithium batteries have powered laptops and cell phones. In 2010, the need to reduce auto emissions combined with the need for inexpensive renewable energy have caused lithium batteries to be placed in some cars. So far, the environmental safety and overheating problems with lithium batteries that once affected laptops appear to have been contained.


Overheating


Most of the safety concerns about lithium batteries center on the mass recall of laptop batteries in 2006. In that year, an overheating problem caused some batteries literally to burst into flame. The overheating appears to have been caused by a design flaw that allowed small metal fragments left over from the manufacturing process to accumulate in the batteries' electrolyte.


Solutions


In 2006, the same year as the recall, several conferences were held among battery manufacturers to improve design standards. In 2010, scientists at Cambridge University found methods to examine lithium batteries in use more closely using Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) spectroscopy. This closer view should allow for further improvements in the function and safety of lithium batteries.


Health and Environment








The corrosive and flammable nature of lithium raises some concerns. Lithium itself is a dangerous substance if dumped in water, and direct human contact with unprotected lithium should be avoided. 4. Select every item on the memory card by clicking on each icon while holding the "Ctrl" key on the keyboard.


5. Drag the selected items to the destination folder; ensure that each of the files have been exported to the computer properly. This finishes the process of downloading a memory card to a computer.

If you store your photographs on CDs, you can view them by loading them on a digital picture frame. A digital picture frame allows you to load your photographs into the frame's memory so that you can transport it and use it to decorate a room in your home or your office. Most digital picture frames allow you to load pictures by connecting it to your computer using a USB cable or with a memory card.


Instructions

1. Turn on your digital picture frame. In order to store pictures in the frame's memory, it must be turned on.


2. Connect the picture frame to your computer using the USB cable. Most digital picture frames come with a cable to connect the frame to your computer directly. One end must be plugged into the frame and the other into the USB port of your computer.


3. Insert the CD with pictures into your computer's CD-ROM drive.


4. View the contents of the CD by clicking the "My Computer" icon on your desktop and opening the contents of your CD-ROM drive, or by using the digital picture frame's software. In some cases, the digital picture frame will come with special software for loading pictures into its memory, and others act as an external storage device that allow you to add pictures directly into its memory. If your frame acts as an external storage device, you will be able to view and change the contents by double-clicking the "My Computer" icon and then double-clicking the icon for the picture frame.


5. Select the photograph files on the CD and transfer them into the frame's memory. If you are navigating the CD by viewing the contents of the CD-ROM drive through the "My Computer" window, select the photographs and "copy" them from the CD and then "paste" them into the digital picture frame. If your frame came with special software, copy the files from the CD by browsing the CD-ROM drive using the software and transfer them to the digital picture frame.








6. Turn off your digital picture frame and disconnect it from your computer.

7. Insert the CD with pictures into your computer's CD-ROM drive.


8. Insert the memory card into your computer's memory card reader.


9. Open the "My Computer" icon on your desktop. The CD content will appear in the CD-ROM drive window and the memory card will appear in the "Devices With Removable Storage" area.


10. Open the contents of the CD by double-clicking the CD-ROM drive.


11. Copy the picture files on the CD. Highlight all of the files and select "Edit" in the toolbar and choose "Copy." Once you have copied the files, hit the "Back" navigation arrow.


12. Open the memory stick window by double-clicking the memory stick icon. This will open a window for the contents of the memory stick.


13. Paste the contents of the CD into the memory stick. In the memory stick window, select "Edit" in the toolbar and choose "Paste."


14. Remove the memory stick from your computer after the files have completely transferred.


15. Insert the memory card into the digital picture frame.

Basics of a Diplexer








As the name suggests, a diplexer is a device that takes two signals (frequencies) and allows both frequencies to be passed through on one port at the same time. For instance, if there is one frequency at 800mhz and another at 300mhz, both the high and low frequencies are passed to the diplexer and then passed through the same line, such as a coaxial cable, at the same time.


Diplexer as a Passive Device


The diplexer, although able to accomplish a rather complex task, is actually nothing more than a passive device, meaning it only grabs frequencies as they are passed through to the device, and it does not actively seek out signals. Simply put, the diplexer doesn't realize the difference between and input and an output; rather, it simply passes the frequencies along its line in tandem.








Diplexer Use Examples


One example of a diplexer in action occurs when a satellite TV customer is receiving his satellite signal for cable shows and his over-the-air signal for local channels over an antenna. The signals are both being sent to the customer's television set at the same time over one coaxial cable hooked up to the television set top box; however, both signals are carried on the same cable at different frequencies to avoid any disruption. A more commercial use is the radio antenna atop the Empire State Building in New York, which transmits dozens of radio signals over a four-panel unit, thanks to diplexer technology.

What Is A Class D Amplifier

A Class-D amplifier is an electronic device that uses a transistor's switching mode in order to monitor the power flow. You can use a Class-D amplifier where high outputs are required. Uses of Class-D Amplifier


A Class-D amplifier is used in theaters and auditoriums that need reinforced sound systems. Class-D is used in the Crest Audio CD3000. This Class-D power amplifier contains 1500 watts per channel. You can also use Class-D in bass amplifiers. The Yamaha BBT500H is a bass amplifier that contains 500 watts.








Modulation


A Class D amplifier uses Pulse Width Modulation (PWM). The input signal converts to a series of pulses. The pulses contain very high frequencies. Your Class D amplifier's switching output is made of a number of pulses. A filter removes unwanted frequencies from the output. The filter maintains efficiency through inductors and capacitors.


Functions


Your Class-D amplifier operates by switching outputs in the middle of "on" and "off." When "on" occurs, current flows through the amplifier. Power dissipation is zero. When "off" occurs, voltage acts as an open-circuit, and stops the current flow. PWM is used in Class-D where a wave with a fixed frequency is created.


Topologies


A Class-D amplifier has two topologies, half-bridge and full-bridge. With a half-bridge topology, two output devices are used. A full-bridge topology uses four output devices. Half-bridge is more flexible. Full bridge is more complicated than a half-bridge. You must use output devices that contain less voltage.


Gate Driver








The gate driver in a Class-D amplifier provides a high current of 20 to 50ns times in order to charge and discharge throughout the switching interval. In an N-channel half bridge, a voltage is present in between a MOSFET's gate to drive a MOSFET on. If the lower MOSFET's source is connected to Vss, its drive circuit must be referred to the Vss node. You will find that the upper MOSFET is difficult to drive. The upper MOSFET's source is floating in the middle of +Vdd and -Vss.

Use A Nikon D80

The Nikon D80 was introduced in 2006 and quickly became one of the most popular cameras in the Nikon line. Though replaced by the D90, the D80 offered a lot to the amateur photographer. The D80 offers everything from auto to manual modes.


Instructions


1. Open the battery door and install a charged EN-EL3 battery.


2. Open the memory card door and slide in an SD card.


3. Turn the camera on by turning the knob on the top right corner of the camera (the shutter knob) to the right.


4. On the left side of the camera is the mode selection dial. The D80 offers several quick start modes. To go to auto, turn the dial so the green camera setting is at about the 3 o'clock position on the dial. Look through the viewfinder and point the camera at what you want to shoot, then depress the shutter button halfway to engage the autofocus. When you see the red autofocus dot flash in the viewfinder, you are ready to take a picture.


5. Choose a scene mode if you want more control. The D80, like a point and shoot camera, has a few scene modes. In a scene mode, you tell the camera what you are shooting and it will adjust its settings accordingly. On the mode dial on the left, you will see Portrait (the person on the dial), Landscape (the mountain on the dial), Macro (the flower), Sports (the runner), Night Landscape (full moon with mountain), and Night Portrait (person with moon).


6. Use the other shooting modes. On the mode dial, you will see the letters P, A, S, and M. These stand for Program, Aperture, Shutter, and Manual, and offer a photographer a way to change the settings manually. In Program, you can adjust ISO and White Balance. To do so, look to the left of the LCD screen and hold down the ISO button, then rotate the small wheel on the upper right side of the camera. You will see the ISO setting change on the small screen on top of the camera next to the shutter button. You can do the same with White Balance by holding the White Balance button down; this button is above the ISO button. In Aperture mode, you can adjust White Balance and ISO the same way, plus change the aperture of the camera lens by rotating the small wheel on the upper right side (the same one used for ISO and White Balance). In Shutter mode, you can change the shutter speed with that wheel. In Manual mode, the wheel on the back of the camera used for ISO and White Balance changes shutter speed, while a similar button on the front of the camera just below the shutter button changes aperture.


7. Increase your frame shooting rate for high speed action shots. The D80 can shoot up to three frames per second. To go from single frame to multiple frame mode, hold down the button on the top right corner of the camera.


8. Play back an image by pushing the green arrow on the left side of the camera above the Menu button. To delete an image, press the trash can button. If you want to magnify and image, push the button with the magnifying glass labeled "Qual" (located bottom left on the back of the camera). To reduce the magnification, press the "ISO" button.

Rechargeable Vs Lithium Batteries







Batteries come in a variety of styles.


Rechargeable batteries are one of the main components of modern electronics. Designed to last longer and allow for longer usage times between replacements, they beat out disposable batteries in value. Not all rechargeable batteries work in the same way. You may choose a battery according to price, but some devices require specific batteries. Rechargeable lithium batteries are superior to standard types.


History


Disposable batteries have always been the main type of battery used in small appliances such as flashlights, toys, remote controls or smoke detectors. For some of these uses, such as toys or flashlights where replacing batteries was a constant task, the invention of rechargeable batteries was a money- and environment-saving step forward. Newer and more improved types of rechargeable batteries have broader uses and can last even longer. The type of battery you choose is usually determined by the equipment it powers.


Nickel Cadmium and Nickel Metal Hydride


These standard rechargeable batteries offer a definite advantage over disposable batteries. They are available in a variety of sizes and voltages, and are generally sold as a starter pack with a charging device or as stand-alone packs. These are excellent choices for things such as TV remotes, small electronic toys and things you use frequently. The drawback is that they need to be completely emptied before recharging as they have what is called memory effect--if the battery maintains some amount of power before it is recharged, it gradually will begin to only recharge to a certain point and not its original full power. You can recharge NiCad and NiMH batteries 200 to 300 times depending on the care and usage, but you will always notice a diminished capacity as the battery ages.


Lithium Technology


Lithium ion, lithium polymer and standard lithium batteries last longer and hold power better than most other forms of batteries. Standard lithium batteries are not rechargeable, however, the lithium ion and polymer types are. All of them are lighter in weight, more powerful, can be recharged many more times than standard rechargeables and do not have a memory effect problem. Devices such as digital cameras can take the standard or regular rechargeable lithium battery.


Which To Choose


Determine the best battery for your use by consulting the product manual to see if it requires a particular type. If any type of battery is acceptable, decide how often you will use the device and the power it takes. A general rule of thumb is that for things that take heavy use such as toys, the best rechargeable battery that you can afford will save you in the long run. If the item is something that is used often but not a constant power drain, a standard non-rechargeable lithium battery may save money, as you do not need to purchase a charging system and the standard lithium will last for an extended period of time before needing replacement.


Things to Remember


Any type of battery needs proper disposal, especially rechargeable batteries. Some types are more prone to high heat, especially the lithium types, and this is a consideration when deciding which type to use. Children should never handle chargers and batteries.
