Use A Usb Flash Drive

USB Flash Drive


Flash memory has revolutionized data storage. Floppy disks were fragile and didn't hold enough. Zip Drives were too expensive and bulky. CD and DVD-ROMs took too long to burn and were awkward to carry around. USB flash drives solved all of these problems by being compact, easy-to-use, and reliable for data storage and transfer.








Instructions


1. Take off the cover of the drive to expose the USB connection, and plug it in to an open USB port on your computer.


2. Check to make sure it installs. The device driver will load for your flash drive (watch for the pop-ups at the bottom right side of the screen). If nothing happens or installation is unsuccessful, visit the manufacturer website to check for an updated driver.


3. Open up your new drive. Your operating system (Windows, etc) may ask what you want to do with the new drive. "Click on Open folder to view files." A blank folder should appear. You can also find your new drive by looking under "My Computer." Save from any open program to your flash drive by selecting "Save As" and the flash drive letter (usually E, F, or G).


4. Transfer files onto your USB flash drive. Click and drag and files or folders you want to place on your flash drive into the empty folder. This process is only limited by the size of the drive (512MB, 1GB, etc).


5. Remove the flash drive safely after transferring files by clicking on the taskbar icon that looks like a green arrow. Click on it and select "Safely remove mass storage device." If this doesn't work, close all folders and retry. The files and folders will remain on the USB drive until erased.








6. Transfer your files to any computer using the same method as above. Plug in and install the drive. Open and view folder. Click and drag any files to and from the folder to the computer.

Mix Down Music

Mixing down music is a complex art, full of subtleties and often dependant on individual tastes. This is a primer on different techniques to use when mixing down your music.


Instructions


1. Decide what elements are essential to the mix. This includes the important instruments in the arrangement as well as peripheral sounds that make a recording special. Listen to your song carefully. Decide what elements are absolutely essential. Figure out what instruments and sounds add something magic to the song. Get rid of sounds that detract from the overall vision of the song. This is often a difficult decision, but a necessary one to make a song as direct as possible. Of course, if you're mixing down a sound collage or an experimental piece, the rules apply in a slightly different way.








2. Determine the volume of each instrument. You'll obviously want crucial elements to be the loudest, while accompaniment can be a bit quieter. Even when you set the volume levels correctly, you may still find yourself with a muddy mix. This is where the next step comes in.


3. Pan instruments and sounds to different areas of the stereo field. Important places to consider are middle and hard left/right. Anything panned to the middle, only the left or only the right speaker will stick out in the mix more than other instruments. In general, it's wise to keep these areas reserved for essential elements of the mix. With other instruments and sounds, experiment with different placements within the stereo field. Try placing instruments just a bit to the left or right of center and see how they sound. Stereo placement makes a great difference in the overall clarity of a mix. Sometimes, though, the music may still seem a bit muddy.


4. EQ individual tracks. This is where mixing can really get tricky. There are no hard and fast rules on equalization, but you'll find that certain instruments occupy different frequency ranges. For example, bass guitar holds much of its sound in the lower frequencies, often at 100hz or lower. The pluck of a bass lies in the high-mid range, around 2hz or so. If you have a parametric EQ on your mixer, you'll be able to experiment with a boost or cut in different ranges. One theory is to cut if you want an instrument to sound better and boost if you want it to sound different. Be judicious, though. Too much boost can overload the overall volume and too much cut can rob the instrument of interesting frequencies.








5. Add effects sparingly. Try adding reverb to individual instruments to give them a sense of space. A small delay can relay thicken a vocal track. Experiment with different combinations of effects to see what suits your taste. Sometimes you'll find that adding the right amount of reverb involves bringing the effect up to a level that sounds good to you, then dialing it back just a little. Unless you're mixing down music that needs to sound cavernous, reverb should be used sparingly. Try different types of reverb on different instruments. Many engineers will use two or three reverb settings on a snare drum alone, then add that to the rest of the drum kit.


6. Make sure that your volume levels are consistent. If the volume levels of individual instruments are all over the place, there are a few remedies. You can do a fader ride, which is moving the fader up and down in accordance with the track volume, or you can compress individual tracks. Compression is an effect that limits the dynamic range of an instrument. Too much compression sucks the life out of a performance, but smart use of compression both controls the dynamic range and makes the performance seem more consistent and professional.


7. Record the mix and give it a listen in different sources. Whatever recording device you are using, mix down and record on the appropriate format. Listen to the mix in your car, in your home stereo, in a portable device and wherever else you are able to play the mix. It will sound different in different systems. By listening closely, you'll hear what elements of the song need to be louder, quiter, EQ'd and what effects need to be added or taken away. Then repeat the previous steps until you have a mix that you like.

LED Lighting Transformer Information


A Light Emitting Diode (LED) is a lighting system that has been around since the 1960s. LEDs are small in size, but can be grouped together to create large amounts of light. All LEDs require a transformer, which regulates the flow of electricity into the lighting system from the power source.


What is a Transformer?


A transformer is made from two coils of wound wire that are connected so that one of the coils will send electricity to the other. One of these coils, the primary coil, is connected to the electrical power source, and it sends electricity to the other, called the primary voltage. The way in which the two coils are connected decides the level of voltage in the second coil. The transformer can either increase or decrease the level of voltage running into it. The turns ratio is the measure of this change.


There are several different types of transformers. However, almost all LED lights work with magnetic transformers, due to their reliability. It is not recommended to use any other type.


LEDs


LED lights are made out of small, 1/4 inch-wide diodes. For larger lights, many small ones are grouped together. Conventional light works by heating up a metal filament inside the light until it glows with heat. LEDs do not heat up a filament, and therefore light up without giving off very much heat, making them an excellent option for lighting systems in which heat is a concern. They are also much more energy-efficient that standard lighting systems.


LED lighting comes in two different types: mains voltage LED and low voltage LED. Mains voltage LEDs are quite simple and can be connected to conventional lights. However, low voltage LEDS require a transformer.


Basic Low Voltage LED Transformers


LED transformers are usually built into the LED fixture or they come inserted into the plugs for portable LED devices. Low wattage LED transformers usually take in about 120 volts of alternating current (AC) from the outlet at a time and convert it to 12 or 24 volts of direct current (DC). The transformer will usually have a total amount of wattage that it can handle, and the number of lights it can be used for must have a lower total wattage than this level.


Other Types of Transformers


Larger LED transformers for products such as garden lights come in two forms. They are either box-shaped or toroidal (donut-shaped). They can be placed anywhere that is convenient. They come in black weather-proof boxes and can be placed on buildings, fences, or walls and under decks or even manholes.


If you cannot find a place to hide your transformer above ground, you can buy a Ground Burial Transformer, especially designed to be buried but still protected. It are specially built so that no moisture can get into the transformer. This process is called resin sealing, and it protects the transformer from dangers such as seepage or condensation.


Uses of LEDs


Once you have the proper transformer for your LED, you can use it for a wide variety of both indoor and outdoor lighting tasks.


Indoors, LEDs can be used anywhere in any way you might desire, including staircases, hallways, living rooms, kitchens, nurseries and bathrooms.


Outdoors, LED lights are widely used for gardens, decks, patios and driveways.

MiniDV is a popular media format for many tape-based camcorders.


Transferring a MiniDV footage to the computer requires the actual camera used for recording the video or a compatible tape deck connected to the computer. It is also possible to transfer the footage to another tape by using two cameras connected to each other with one used as player and the other as recorder. Another option to transfer the footage to another tape without using two cameras, is to use the digitized video file to transfer the footage from the computer to the destination tape.

1. Connect the MiniDV camera to the computer using a FireWire or USB cable. For MiniDV cameras, it is also possible to use an S-video or RCA cable. 2. Insert the MiniDV tape containing the footage intended for transfer to the computer.


3. Turn on the camera, then switch its program button to "VCR" mode. Cue your MiniDV tape from the start.


4. Open your computer's video-editing program. Go to the "File" menu and select the "Capture" button. Wait for the "Capture Window" to appear.


5. Click the "Start," "Record" or any other button referring to the digitizing of the footage from the camera to the computer.


6. Click your camera's "Play" button to start the real-time recording from the tape to the computer.


7. Press your camera's "Stop" button once the playback is finished. Soon after, press the "Stop" button in your "Capture Window." Some video-editing programs only require pressing the "Esc" button to end the "Capture" process.

10. Turn on your cameras and put them both in "VCR" mode, then cue the tapes in both cameras.


11. Press the "Record" button in your recording camera device, then press the "Play" button in your playback camera device.

Instructions

4. Make sure nothing is obstructing your antenna. If anything is blocking your antenna, especially something large, it could negate your antenna's ability to pick up a signal from the Sirius Satellites.

Use A Casio Exilim Camera

1. Lay the Casio Exilim camera on the table, lens side down.

To unlock the card, turn the camera off and open the battery compartment on the bottom of the camera. Slide the compartment out toward the side of the camera and lift it up to reach the memory card. Press down against the card until it clicks; then release it so it ejects. Move the switch on the card from the lock position to the recording position and replace it in the camera.








Card Tabs


In some cases the tabs on a Memory Stick Duo can get dirty and keep the camera from communicating properly with it. Turn off the camera and open the battery compartment on the bottom of the device by pulling it out to the side of the camera and carefully lifting it up; then press on the memory card to eject it. Clean the card with a soft cloth so that the metal contacts look clean and reflect light well; you shouldn't see any dust or grime on them. Replace the card and close the battery compartment.








Damaged Card


Another possibility is that the card is damaged and will no longer work properly at all. This can happen if the card gets wet or is bent or broken, though in rare cases cards may stop working even if there's no visible damage. Try the Memory Stick Duo in another device, like a different camera or in a card reader on a computer. If the card doesn't work properly and you can't format it even with other devices, it's probably damaged and needs replacing.


Counterfeit Card


Sony has released warnings regarding counterfeit Memory Sticks, and if you accidentally purchased one of these, you could experience any kind of error when using the card, including failure to format it. Sony warns against purchasing cards that seem to be at an incredibly low price, especially those you may find on Internet auction sites. A Multimeter For A Light Socket

A multimeter is an easy-to-use device which can help you with electrical components.


Using a multimeter to check a light socket in your home can help you pinpoint a problem and decide on the best solution. Multimeters can be purchased from any hardware store, or rented from an auto parts store for a small deposit. If you don't plan on needing a multimeter often, you should rent one. The multimeter can be used to narrow down which part of the light fixture or corded lamp is broken.


Instructions


Lamp Light Socket


1. Unplug the lamp, if it is currently plugged into the wall. Set the multimeter to the resistance/continuity setting, it is the setting with the omega symbol. The omega symbol looks like an upside down horseshoe.


2. Take one of the leads -- which are the two cords on the multimeter, one is black and one is red -- and place it onto one of the prongs at the end of the light cord.


3. Take the other lead, and push it into the center of the light socket. If there is a beep, or the meter reads 000, than that side of the circuit is complete and good. If the number displayed is higher than four, there is some form of resistance in the socket, and it is probably bad.


If the meter does not beep, doesn't show 000, or shows O.L. go to Step 3.


4. Remove the lead that you are holding against the prong, and press it to to the other prong on the lamp cord. If, while holding the lead against the other prong, the meter doesn't say 000, but it displays a higher number, or O.L., then that side of the circuit is bad.








If the meter displays 000 or beeps, it is a complete circuit and that circuit is good.








A corded lamp, if found to be bad, can either be replaced or repaired. The choice is up to you.


Light Fixture Socket


5. Flip the switch on, if you are testing a ceiling light or vanity lights. Set the multimeter to the voltage setting. This setting usually has a V next to it.


6. Remove the light bulb, if there is one. Place one lead from the multimeter into the socket, where the bottom of the light bulb would touch. Place the other lead at any point along the side of the socket, where the light bulb screws in.


7. Check the multimeter. The display should show a number around 120V. If the number is smaller than 110V, or the display reads 0, the wiring to the socket, or the socket itself is bad. Replacement of the socket or wiring will usually require the services of a professional electrician.

Finding Places in Different Locations

The c340 will automatically search for places using your current location, but if you select "near" from the 'where to?' menu you can also search for POIs in the upcoming cities you will be entering, along the route you are currently navigating and in places near the end of your route.


Custom POIs


The c340 has the ability to accept custom POI databases from various companies, which can contain items such as school zones to warn you when you approach a location such as this. Use the Garmin POI Loader (see the Resources) to install the POIs into your unit after downloading your POI database.


Traffic Information


The c340 has the ability to receive and use traffic information broadcast over the FM Radio Data System (RDS) using a Garmin FM TMC Traffic Receiver. Your c340 will display received traffic information on the map and alter your route to avoid a traffic incident when a traffic message is received. If you have the FM TMC Traffic Receiver simply plug the USB cable into the connector located on the right side of the c340.

Make An Xm Antenna







XM radios have the ability to transmit radio signals directly to your vehicle's car radio by way of an FM transmitter. To get a clean signal, you must have a connected antenna for the radio to pick up. Make your own XM antenna with some copper wire and a 2.5mm plug. Once you have it fully assembled, the reception will be nearly 10 times the strength of the antenna that comes with the receiver.


Instructions








1. Remove the plastic cover from the back of the 2.5mm plug by unscrewing it from the adapter. This cover acts as an insulator for the wires when connected, as well as for the terminals.


2. Remove about 1/2 inch of the rubber insulation on the copper wire, then wrap the exposed wire around the smaller terminal on the plug, twisting them together on the outside of the terminal for a secure connection. Make sure the copper wire does not come into contact with the larger terminal when connecting it to the plug. Only the smaller terminal will be used.


3. Cover the terminal's wire connection with the electrical tape to avoid having it touch the larger terminal, then replace the plug's plastic cover by screwing it back into place. Plug the 2.5mm plug into your receiver's "ANT" jack, and you will be able to use its FM transmitter to send the satellite radio's signal to your radio.

Install A Maco V5/8 Antenna







The Maco V5/8 antenna is an omni-directional ground plane antenna that can be used for capturing CB radio broadcast signals. It is made of an aircraft-quality alloy aluminum tubing that's about .05 inches thick. This vertical ground plane antenna can extend out from its base to increase its effectiveness in capturing signals from long distances. The process of installing a Maco V5/8 antenna is a fairly straightforward one to perform.


Instructions


1. Screw the 2-inch screw into the pre-drilled hole in the P08P bracket and the base hole to fasten the bracket to the pole. The P08P bracket will be attached to the circular base ring. When the bracket is attached to the base pole correctly, the base will be at a 90-degree angle to the base pole. There will also be a lateral arm bracket attached to the base ring. This arm is also attached to the base pole with one of the supplied screw clamps.








2. Insert each of the four lateral base poles into the holes in the main base pole, just below the circular base ring. There are clamp screws next to each hole. Once the poles are inserted, screw the clamps to fasten the poles to the main base pole.


3. Insert each of the four extender poles into the top of the main base pole, one pole inserted into the next successively. Each pole has a screw clamp. Screw each screw clamp to fasten the poles to one another. When the poles are inserted correctly, they will extend the antenna upward.


4. Plug the S0239W connection wire into the "Antenna" port in the back of the CB radio (or equivalent) system.

Discharge A Grow Light Capacitor

Discharge a grow light capacitor.


HID (high-intensity discharge) fixtures are typically used for grow lights. These fixtures contain a high-voltage transformer and a large capacitor. The capacitor acts like a storage battery and aids the light bulb's illumination. Most HID capacitors will use an on-board resistor to automatically discharge the unit when not connected to electricity. By following a basic procedure, you can safely discharge any large capacitor that does not have an on-board discharging resistor.


Instructions


1. Remove all electrical power from the HID light.


2. Connect one end of the alligator-clip connectors to the capacitor. One connector each to the two power connections on the capacitor.


3. Lay the ceramic resistor on an insulated surface. Spread the wire connectors outward so they do not touch each other.


4. Attach one alligator clip to one of the resistor wires. Connect the second clip to the other resistor wire creating the discharge circuit.


5. Allow this connection to remain for two to three minutes. It is normal for the resistor to get warm while draining the capacitor.


6. Disconnect the alligator clips from the resistor. Connect both ends of the clips together to short out the capacitor. A small spark may occur when completing the circuit. This shorting of the capacitor will keep it discharged while working on the light fixture. Remove the clips before energizing the circuit with electricity.

Watch Live Cable Tv Online

Watching cable TV online allows you to view stations that may not be available to you in your cable package. Doing so also lets you watch two different programs at the same time. You may wish to do this if you don't own a DVR and there are two separate live sporting events taking place. There are two different ways to watch cable TV online. You can either download a software program or visit a website that broadcasts cable TV stations in your Web browser.


Instructions


TVU Player


1. Download TVU Player (see Resources). This software program can be used to watch live cable TV online.


2. Open TVU Player.


3. Click "All" at the top of TVU Player. When you do so, a long list of available TV channels will appear on the left side of the player.


4. Choose any of the channels. After you click the channel, a short advertisement will play in the video portion of TVU Player. When the commercial finishes, the channel will load.


Channel Surfing


5. Visit the Channel Surfing website (see Resources). This website gives you the option of watching live cable and network TV without having to download any programs.


6. Scroll down the page to find a list of stations currently being broadcast on Channel Surfing.


7. Click one of the channel links. A new window will open. Once the page finishes loading, you will see a video player in the middle of that window.


8. Click on the "Play" button. The station will begin playing in the video player.

A ring flash is an ideal tool for professional and serious amateur photographers who want that clear, well-lit shot. Ring flashes are mainly used for macro, or closeup photography, and for portraits. Ring lights are a circular light that allows your lens to poke through the middle. When you discharge the flash it floods the subject with well-balanced, soft light that often doesn't need to be diffused.


Macro vs. Portrait


The first question, besides your budget, you will need to consider is what you plan on using the ring flash for. Using a ring flash in macro photography that's designed for portraits will not function quite as well as a ring flash designed specifically for macro photography, and vice-versa. This is due to the different distances between macro and portrait photography. So to light your subject evenly and without shadows, you will need the proper ring flash that works specifically for that distance.


Batteries vs. Plug-ins

Don't Fry Your Camera








Next, you will want to find a specific model that works with your camera. Buy one that doesn't have a higher voltage than your camera or else you can fry your camera's circuitry. Many older model flash rings for SLRs have a much higher voltage discharge than your new digital SLR can handle, and if you fry your camera it won't be covered under warranty. It is recommended to purchase the same brand flash ring as your camera.


Adapters For Lenses


Some flash rings also require you to purchase extra adapters to fit on different size lenses. This can start to add up on a tight budget, so you'll need to consider the lenses you use and whether the flash ring will need adapters or are adjustable.


Single Light Bulb vs. Multiple Bulbs


A final thing to consider before purchasing a ring flash is whether you want it to have a single, continuous bulb or one with multiple connected bulbs. A ring flash with multiple connected bulbs is ideal because you can use the bulbs independent of each other, which may add depth to your shot, but may also cast some shadows. A single bulb flash ring works well for portraits because it gives a flat, even lighting, but some photographers may not enjoy this because it can produce a light ring around your subject.

Measure A Big Screen Tv







All TVs are measured diagonally from one lower corner to the opposite upper corner. That's the measurement listed on the box and is normally a reliable method of comparing TV sizes. It breaks down, however, when comparing older tube screen TVs (which use a 4:3 screen ratio) and newer projection or flat-screen TVs (which use a wider and narrower 16:9 ratio). Accordingly, a "larger" flat screen TV may actually contain fewer square inches than a "smaller" analog TV! Here's the best way to accurately measure the difference when buying a big screen TV.


Instructions


1. Measure the space you'll need for your big screen TV before you buy. Knowing how much room you have to play with helps you determine what size television works best. Write down the depth you have, as well as the height and width. Leave at least 6 inches of space between the TV and any pictures, windows or furniture in the area.


2. Determine all of the dimensions on the new TV and make sure they fit in with the space you have set aside. Don't just use the big measurement on the box: get the size of the frame and tube as well. This probably won't be a problem with flat-screen TVs, which are very thin and don't extend out much beyond their screen. Projection TVs and older analog TVs, however, should have their whole size measured carefully.








3. Compare the height of the new TV's screen to the height of the older TV, especially if you are trading in a TV with a 4:3 screen for one with a 16:9 screen. That ensures that the new TV is at least as big as the old one (and probably a little bigger). If you just go by diagonal width, you'll probably end up with a smaller screen size.


4. For a fast measurement shortcut, multiply the diagonal width of an old 4:3 ratio TV by 1.22. The result is the required diagonal width of a new 16:9 ratio TV to match the size of the old set. Since the diagonal width is the one listed on the box and in the ads, you can make the calculations instantly without relying on a tape measure.

One drawback, however, associated with solar panels is that they may not be able to recharge a fully dead battery. Solar panels are most effective when used to maintain a charge or slowly recharging a battery that isn't fully drained. Furthermore, a charge controller is necessary if you want to avoid overcharging your battery.


Water Power


A cool, new invention allows you to recharge your battery while you wash your car. The device is hooked up to your water hose. As the water runs through the device and back through the hose, it moves a turbine that generates electricity. Types


There have been many different styles of telephones as they have developed over the years. Some styles of very early phones had hand-cranked generators. Some were made with only one opening for sound, in which a user alternated between listening through and speaking through the same hole. Rotary dial phones were patented in 1923 and were the standard until the invention of the touch-tone phone in the 1960s. Pulse dialing phones, which had push buttons but operated on pulses that mimicked the rotary dial were also popular. Most phones today operate on the touch-tone system.


Identification


Telephone service has many features that give the user options and lots of flexibility. There is Caller ID, which allows an individual to see who is calling before he chooses to answer the call. There is Call Waiting, which allows a user to put a party on hold in order to answer an incoming call that is received during a conversation. There is Call Forwarding, which allows you to have calls directed to your phone number sent to a phone other than your own. There is also voicemail service, which allows a person to leave a message for you if you are not able to answer her call. Some users choose to connect an answering machine to their phone instead to receive their messages. Most of these special features can be used directly from the phone itself.


Benefits


Most of the above-named features are found on both land-line and cellular phones. However, cell phones offer a user even more features and flexibility. Users can talk from virtually anywhere, so long as they have a charged phone and active phone service in an area with good reception. In addition, cell phone users can send text messages to communicate without talking. Many phones, particularly "smart phones," allow a user to access the Internet, download or listen to music, play games, keep and maintain schedules, set alarms and much more. The cell phone can be used as an essential tool and an entertainment device, in addition to being a very convenient way to talk to others.


Benefits


Phone lines can also be used to send information via a messaging system called facsimile. More easily referred to as a fax, this technology scans a document and sends it across a telephone line to another fax machine. In addition, phone lines can be used in order to access the Internet through dial-up and DSL service. Conversely, one can use high-speed access to obtain phone service called VoIP, or Voice over Internet Protocol..

Make A Kicker Subwoofer Box

Kicker produces many popular, high-performance subwoofers for car audio applications. If you're going to put a Kicker subwoofer into your car's audio system, it's important to put the subwoofer into a box (enclosure) that provides the subwoofer with a sturdy and low-resonance chamber to operate in. This will ensure that the subwoofer operates at the peak of efficiency and provides the best possible sound.


Instructions


1. Cut two pieces of MDF to the following dimensions: 14 by 14 inches. These will be the front and back panels of the box.


2. Cut two pieces of MDF to the following dimensions: 14 by 12 inches. These will be the side panels of the box.


3. Cut two more pieces of MDF to the following dimensions: 12 1/2 by 12 inches. These will be the top and bottom panels of the box.


4. Assemble the top, bottom and side panels together to make a rectangle. Attach each piece to the other with wood screws and wood glue. Think of the finished structure as a hollow box open on each end. The side panels will overlap the top and bottom panels so that the finished dimensions are 14 by 14 inches around the perimeter.


5. Cut an opening for the subwoofer, centered in the front panel. Use your Kicker subwoofer as a template for the opening to ensure that it's the right size.


6. Cut an opening in the back panel for the terminal cup. Use the terminal cup as your template.


7. Attach the back and front panels to the rectangle you created in Step 4. Attach the pieces with wood screws and wood glue.


8. Attach a 14-inch length of speaker wire to the tabs on the back of the terminal cup. Feed the wire through the opening for the terminal cup and then secure the terminal cup into place with wood screws.


9. Attach the other end of the speaker wire to the subwoofer's terminals. Mount the subwoofer into the opening in the box, using wood screws to hold it in place.

Monopods offer lightweight stability.








A tripod reduces camera shake when shooting in low light or when taking portrait shots with a slow shutter. However, it's not always feasible to haul a large tripod around. That's where a monopod comes in, with a single lightweight retractable rod, adjustable height and small size, carrying one on remote shoots is easy. Read on to learn photograph with a monopod.


Instructions


1. Choose a monopod with stability and versatility in mind. Look for numerous locking collars along the length of the rod, allowing you to adjust the height precisely. In addition, pick a monopod with a three-legged foot that retracts inside the bottom the rod but provides additional stability when needed.








2. Attach the monopod to the bottom of your camera. All Single Lens Reflex (SLR) cameras are equipped with a screw attachment and many point-and-shoot cameras have them as well.


3. Adjust the desired height of the monopod by releasing the locking collars and extending the rod. Once you determine the length needed, re-lock the collars to keep the rod from slipping. If your monopod is equipped with a three-legged-foot, you can extend it now.


4. Stand with your feet shoulder width apart and hold one hand on your camera and the other on the upper part of the monopod for stability.


5. Compose your shot, inhale, hold your breath, and then take the picture. Because you are an integral part of the stability of the monopod, holding your breath will reduce movement caused by breathing. Squeeze the shutter button slowly and smoothly.

4g Coverage

The fourth-generation mobile broadband speed standard that supersedes 3G is known as 4G. Not only is 4G capable of higher data download and transmissions speeds, it also maintains data fidelity. As of November 2010, only Sprint has activated its 4G network.








Sprint


The Sprint 4G network provides coverage to 40 million people. Sprint currently only covers select cities and metropolitan areas, such as New York City and Tampa, Florida. Sprint expects to expand its 4G network coverage. Visit the Sprint 4G website to be notified when Spring 4G coverage comes to your area (see Resources).


AT&T


AT&T does not currently have an active 4G network, but they intend to activate their network by mid-2011. AT&T expects to cover 70 to 75 million people by the end of 2011. AT&T has indicated that its 4G network will cover select major metropolitan areas when first activated.








Verizon


Verizon's 4G network is also not currently active. When active by the end of 2010, Verizon will establish 4G coverage in 38 cities around the United States. This will translate into well over 100 million people covered by the Verizon 4G network. Verizon will continue to expand its 4G network until it is able to provide coverage in all current 3G network areas.

Change The Direction Of Light Using A Light Box & Slides

The art of photography is the art of controlling light. Depending on your situation, what must be done with the light around you--or light created around you--varies between diffusion, enhancement and dimming. For studio photography, light boxes are the preferred method of diffusion--light is not only enhanced, but is spread evenly throughout the box. Slides, or screens, can be used to the same effect. Know your camera and how its setting interact with light before you get started. Proper lighting can turn even the simplest of subjects into a vibrant work of art.


Instructions


Light Boxes


1. Set up the light box. Technically, a light box does not change the direction of light, but rather it diffuses it evenly throughout the box to properly light an object inside without shadows. Light boxes generally range anywhere between two to four feet wide or tall. Smaller boxes are usually more common. Larger subjects--such as humans--are photographed in studios in front of screens and with bouncing slides.








2. Choose or create a three-sided box. Light boxes have just three sides and a roof, and are generally either wider than tall or perfectly square. You can create a wooden frame and line it with paper, foam board, canvas or other cloth. Whatever you choose must be able to let light through, and needs to be white. If you prefer, you could purchase a light box kit from a camera supply store.


3. Position the lights either around the box or direct them through the opening. The light must either pass through the sides--one on each side--or over the top of the box through the fabric or paper walls. This will spread the light evenly throughout the box to afford a softer glow to the object being photographed.


For a more vibrant lighting, set up three lights--two directly at the entrance on either side, and one through the top. If you are using this method you will need to make sure that you are using cool white lights, incandescent lights will leave an unwanted yellow hue.








Slides, Screens, Silks, and Scrims


4. Choose the right light effect for your surrounding light. "Slide" is not a technical term used by photographers to refer to light diffusers. It usually refers to a series of images, such as "negative slides." Tools used to change the direction of light are known as screens, scrims and silks. Screens are used to bounce light directly from a source, such as a flash bulb or constant streaming light. Scrims are used to lessen the amount of light produced from a source, such as harsh sunlight, and do not change the color temperature. Silks are used to diffuse light intended to illuminate the object--that is, it spreads it evenly.


5. Set up screens. Any type of material that will bounce soft light onto your subject will work, whether it is a large piece of white cardboard or a stretched pieces of fabric. Angle the screen against the light so that there are no harsh shadows on the subject. Generally, screens can be used at any time, though if you are using studio lighting, the subject should be against a backdrop.


6. Use either a scrim or a silk. Scrims and screens don't bounce light, but rather the light passes directly through them. Scrims are made of silk, and you can either stretch silk over a frame, or purchase one through a photography equipment dealer. Light also passes directly through the silk, but the light is diffused, that is, "spread out." Hold both silks and scrims directly in front of the light source, that is whatever angle the light is hitting the object, either sun or bulb, the screen should be positioned to directly interfere with it.

Adjust The Convergence On A Sony Big Screen Tv Model #Kp51ws510

The Sony KP-51WS510 is a rear projection television that uses individual lamps for each of the three colors. In order to get the best picture, all the lamps must be perfectly aligned. Otherwise, the image may look blurry or show color anomalies. You can adjust the convergence automatically using the Flash Focus feature. If the picture still has problems after performing Flash Focus, you also can adjust the convergence through the menus using the remote control.


Instructions


1. Turn the TV on and switch to a television signal.


2. Press the "FLASH FOCUS" button on the front panel of the TV. A cross pattern will appear on the screen. When the cross turns white, automatic convergence adjustment is completed.


3. Press the "MENU" key on the remote control.


4. Scroll to "Setup" using the joystick on the remote and press the "+" key.


5. Scroll to "Convergence" and press "+" again. A 9-by-7 grid of crosses will appear on the screen. The center cross has a yellow square bracket around it. You can adjust the convergence manually by looking at each of the crosses. Crosses that have red or blue edges need adjusting, white crosses do not.


6. Move the yellow bracket to a cross that needs adjusting using the joystick. Start with the crosses in the center and move toward the edges. Press the "+" button and the bracket will change to red. Move the joystick until the cross turns white.


7. Press the "+" key to confirm the adjustment and move to the next cross.








8. Repeat Steps Six and Seven until all the crosses are white.








9. Press the "MENU" key to exit the convergence screen.

Minitor Pagers Information

A pager, also called a page or beeper, is a telecommunications device used to receive short messages or alerts. "Minitor" refers to a voice pager manufactured by Motorola.


Use


Minitor pagers are largely used by EMS, fire and rescue personnel. The Minitor is typically carried in standby, or silent, mode. The pager starts a tone alert when activated, which is then followed by an audio broadcast announcement from the dispatcher. The pager then continues to broadcast audio transmissions on the pager's channel until returned to standby mode.


Operation


Minitor pagers can operate in UHF, VHF High Band and VHF Low Band frequencies. The pagers are activated via two-tone selective calling. Selective calling is used to address a subset of two-way radios on one radio frequency channel. This enables the Minitor pager to activate when a particular set of tones are transmitted over the frequency that the pager is set to.


Features


Minitor pagers can be set to multiple activation tones and can simultaneously scan up to two channels. These pagers can also record up to eight minutes of voice transmissions after the pager is activated. Many Minitor models offer field programmable options such as push-to-listen, nonpriority scan and alert duration.
