Nikon D70s Compatible Flash Cards

The D70s is an older model in Nikon's line of digital single lens reflex (DSLR) professional-grade camera. It uses CompactFlash (CF) memory cards rather than the SecureDigital (SD) cards used with many newer cameras as of 2010. Nikon has posted a list of the CF cards it has officially tested to work with the D70s on its website.








SanDisk








According to Nikon's website, you can use a variety of SanDisk-manufactured CF cards with the D70s. The compatible cards include any card from its SDCFB (types I or II), SDCFH ("Ultra" or "Ultra II") and SDCFX ("Extreme" or "Extreme III") series. Nikon lists an extensive range of compatible capacities. The SDCFX Extreme III series, for example, can be used for cards up to 2 gigabytes (GB) in size, whereas the SDCFB Type II has been tested as compatible only up to 300 megabytes (MB).


Lexar Media


The D70s is compatible with many of the CF cards Lexar Media manufactures. According to Nikon, cards in Lexar's standard and "Write Acceleration" (WA) format work with the D70s. Lexar's nomenclature system for its CF cards entails a number plus the letter "x." Its D70s-compatible cards start with the "4x," which has the smallest capacity (16 MB), while the WA-formatted "80x" is compatible in capacities of up to 4 GB.


Microdrive and Hitachi


Nikon also recommends several CF cards from other manufacturers, namely Microdrive and Renesas Technology by Hitachi. Nikon certifies that Microdrive's "DSCM" and "3K4" CF cards work with the D70s in capacities of 512 MB to 4GB. It recommends the Renesas Technology HB28C8x only in 16 MB and 32 MB sizes.

Make Your Own Sand Box With Pvc Pipe

Instructions


1. Cut four pieces of PVC with a circular saw, trimming to match the dimensions that you want for your sandbox. Attach the four pieces together with elbow joints to form a square. Repeat four more times to create five total squares.


2. Shovel out a four inch deep trench to match the dimensions of your PVC squares.


3. Insert one of the PVC squares into the trench. Press it into the trench so it is resting solidly on the ground.


4. Apply construction adhesive along the top of the pipes that are in the ground. Set a PVC square on top of the first square. Continue layering the pipes in this manner until all five PVC squares are glued together and placed in the trench. Let the adhesive dry for two hours.


5. Fill the sandbox with play sand.

The markets for endoscopes are divided into three major catagories: the medical profession, veterinary profession and all other uses are lumped under general industry (both private and public, business, etc.). This endoscope transmits magnified images to a monitor. The technology behind it incorporates an RGB filter to generate superior color images. As well, the design of the super CCD cuts back on image noise, allowing for clearer frozen pictures. In video mode, it processes 30 frames a second, thus producing smooth images that flow naturally.

Using Yourself and Other Humans


1. Exhale before pressing the shutter button and hold your breath for a few seconds to avoid shaking the camera as you take a picture.


2. Push your elbows either towards each other in front of your body or inwards towards your sides to keep your arms from moving as much when you snap a photo.


3. Bend down on one knee as if you were proposing and prop the elbow you are using to steady your camera on your upraised knee. Here, your knee, stabilized by your other leg, is acting as the tripod.


4. Lie on the ground and rest your camera on the ground in front of you. Not only will this stabilize your camera, but it will also produce a unique angle for your shot.








5. Put your camera on a friend's shoulder and snap the picture as he stands as still as possible. This ledge works similarly to a tripod, providing a stable resting place for the camera.


Bean-Bag Tripod


6. Fill a small plastic or cloth baggie with about 1 1/2 cups of dry rice or beans.


7. Let the air out of the baggie and seal it shut using tape, wire or a knot.


8. Put the bean bag on a hard surface and rest your camera on top of it. This will allow you to move your camera up and down to take pictures at different inclinations and will keep your camera from getting scratched or damaged when you place it on hard surfaces.


String Monopod


9. Tie a loop at one end of a length of string. The string should be about as long as you are tall, and the loop should be large enough to slip around your foot.


10. Attach a 1/4-inch bolt or a quick-release tripod mount to the other end of the string.


11. Screw the bolt or tripod mount onto your camera, and slip the looped end around your foot. When the string is pulled taut it will help stabilize your camera. This type of monopod is ideal when you need a slow shutter speed and the ability to move about freely.


Bottle-Cap Tripod


12. Drill a hole through the top of a bottle cap, using a 1/4-inch drill. You can smooth the hole over with sandpaper, but this is optional.








13. Slip one washer onto the 1/4-inch bolt and screw this through the bottle cap, going from the underside of the cap to the topside. The threads of your bolt should now be sticking out of the top of the cap, and there should be a washer between the bottom of the cap and the other end of the bolt.


14. Slip the other washer onto the bolt so that it sits on the topside of the bottle cap.


15. Screw the 1/4-inch hex nut onto the threads that stick out the top of your bottle cap, thus securing the washer. Your cap should now have a washer secured by a bolt on the underside and a washer secured by a hex nut on the topside.


16. Twist the cap back on the bottle to create the tripod. You can now screw your camera onto the threads that stick out of the bottle cap. To further stabilize the tripod, you can pour rice into the plastic bottle to make it heavier.

1. Power your phone on and access your contacts. Highlight a contact entry and press "OK" to open it.








2. Open the options menu. Choose the "Copy to SIM" option and press "OK."


3. Repeat the process for each contact you wish to copy to the SIM. Some devices allow you to choose "Select Multiple" when you choose the "Copy to SIM" option. Highlight each entry to be copied, then press "OK."

After placing the handset in the acoustic coupler--the modem that transmits the information of your call--make sure the phone light goes off. This light responds to the sounds picked up by the acoustic coupler; there should be no sound picked up before you make your call.


3. Dial your number and pay attention to the patterns of the phone light. Since it flashes in patterns that correspond to the sounds on the other end of the phone, a busy signal can be identified by a the quick pulses of light. Likewise the phone light will flash slowly when the phone on the other end is ringing.


4. Watch the TTY screen for the person on the other end to answer, typically by typing his name and the abbreviation for "go ahead" (GA). If the phone light stops blinking and nobody has typed a greeting, it may be that a hearing person has answered. You can indicate a TTY call by pressing the space bar a few times.


5. Begin typing after seeing "GA." Identify yourself and the purpose of your call, making sure to end your message with "GA." When using a TTY a conversant can only take his turn in conversation after seeing the abbreviation. Even if you know what the other person is going to type, a TTY message in process can't be interrupted.


6. Finish your conversation by typing "GA to SK," which literally means "go ahead to stop keying." It is a standard method of saying good-bye or signaling the end of a conversation.

What Are the Functions of the Lens in the Eye?


The ability of the human eye to "see" is interdependent upon all of its parts. The purpose of the lens is to focus objects near and far to make them clear. The lens, like the lens of a camera, opens and shuts to allow light to reach the retina to focus an image. With age, the lens loses the function to refract light to bring images into focus. Disease can rob the lens of its function to work with light. Many conditions can be corrected with surgery.








Location


The lens sits behind the colored part of the eye (the iris) that circles the black pupil. Extensions of an encircling ring of muscle hold the lens in position behind the cornea, the iris and the pupil. Dividing the eye into two main chambers, the iris and lens form a front area full of a watery liquid called the aqueous humor. The back chamber is filled with a jellylike material, the vitreous body.

Light entering the eye first passes through the outer clear layer called the cornea. Bending from the curvature of the corneal plane, the light then enters through the pupil. The pupil controls the amount of light that passes through the cornea and the lens.


Ciliary Muscles and the Lens


The ciliary muscles flatten the lens when they tense, and make it more spherical--increase the diameter--when they relax. This movement enables the lens to adjust the focus of far and near objects in relationship to one another.


Age Effects


Aging causes the lens and the soft material encasing it--the cortex--to harden. This lessens the ability of the lens to change shape to adjust for close or distance vision. This function of the lens is called accommodation.


Diseases


Cataracts are a condition that often comes with age. Cataracts form when protein clumps together in the lens, clouding it. Left medically unattended, cataracts eventually cause irreversible blindness. Caught in early stages of development, surgically removing these cataracts restores the patient's sight. In cataract surgery, the old lens is removed and an artificial lens is inserted. This is a common and relatively painless procedure.


Presbyopia occurs with normal aging and is a gradual loss of the eye's ability to adjust the focus on what it sees. With presbyopia the lens stiffens and disrupts how the eye sees near objects. Commonly diagnosed in people around the age of 40, prescribing reading glasses or bifocals corrects presbyopia.

Troubleshoot An Rca Satellite Receiver

If your RCA Satellite Receiver's image or audio freezes, you get a blank screen or the device won't respond to commands from the remote control or front panel, first try rebooting the machine. If the reboot doesn't correct the issue, perform a system test to run basic diagnostics.


Instructions


1. Press and hold the "Power" button on the front of the box for at least five seconds.


2. If the problem is not fixed, unplug the satellite receiver for two minutes then plug it in again.


3. Test to see if this has corrected the problem. If not, run a system test. Turn on the TV and the satellite receiver.


4. Press the DIRECTV button to start the satellite receiver controlling the system and press the "Menu" button.

There are a wide variety of different digital video cameras available for purchase. Most cameras offer a few different options if you want to connect it to your laptop. Connecting the camera to your laptop computer is important if you want to extract the video and edit it into a final piece. Most of the required cables come included when you purchase the video camera; however, you may need to buy some of the higher-end cables (such as a Firewire cable).


Instructions








1. Power on your laptop computer and wait for everything to load up. Because capturing video requires a large amount of RAM you do not want any other programs open.


2. Turn on the digital movie camera and set it to VCR. This changes the camera from recording mode to viewing mode.


3. Look on the video camera to identify what ports you have to connect the two devices together. You are going to have a USB cable port, however you also more than likely have a Firewire port. You need to check on your laptop to see if a Firewire port is available (typically only higher-end computers have this port).


4. Plug in the desired cable into the port on the video camera. Firewire provides a faster data transfer and usually better video quality, so if you do have a Firewire port on both camera and computer you should use this. Connect the other end of the cable into the appropriate port on the laptop. From here you can capture the video content or do whatever else you need to do with the connection.

Wire A Rci 2950 Microphone

You will need to wire a RCI 2950 microphone if its cable has been cut or is damaged and does not work. Six pins plug into the microphone port on the back of the radio. If a spare microphone cord is not available, you can splice the two damaged sections of the microphone cord back together.


Instructions


1. Cut ¼ of an inch from both ends of the microphone card that you will need to splice with the wire cutters.








2. Place a piece of heat shrink tubing over the longer part of the cord.


3. Strip ½ to 3/4 of an inch of outer cover from the cord with the wire strippers.


4. Strip ¼ of an inch of insulation from each of the colored wires. Place the end of each colored wire from one piece of the cord into one end of a butt connector.


5. Crimp the end of the butt connectors with the crimping tool.








6. Insert the wires from the other piece of cord into the opposite end of the butt connectors. Verify that the all of the colored wires are matching. Crimp the end of the butt connectors with the crimping tool.


7. Slide the heat shrink tubing over the butt connectors. Apply heat from the blow dryer until the tubing begins to shrink over the cable.


8. Plug the connector end of the microphone cable into the microphone port on the radio.

Most laptops are equipped with a sound card that lets the user connect various audio devices, including a stereo. Instructions

3. Insert the mini-plug on the Y adapter into the laptop's sound card "Input" jack.


4. Open the recording software on the computer by double clicking the name of the software from the program list.


5. Select the stereo source for recording audio. For example, set the stereo selector switch to "tape deck" or "CD" if recording from a cassette or disk to the laptop.








6. Insert the audio source (CD, cassette, record) in the stereo and start playback.


7. Click the "Record" button on the laptop's audio recording software. The "Record" button usually has a red circle in the center.


8. Click the "Stop" button on the software when finished recording and click "File" and "Save As" to open a window on the screen.








9. Type a name for the recording and click the triangle button next to "Save as File Type." Choose .WAV and clik "OK" to save the recording to the laptop hard drive under the chosen name.

During the 1970s, '80s, and early '90s, the cassette player was one of the most dominate forms of music playback available. Although now they are almost obsolete due to digital technology, cassette tapes are historic as one of the last popular analog methods of transferring music.


Analog to Digital


Cassette players were one of the last popular analog methods of transferring music and were rapidly replaced by CDs due to the many advantages that they offered--including sound quality, storage space and durability.


Storage


Cassettes players use cassettes which record music on very small tape. The tape can generally hold from 30 to 100 minutes and was very popular after its introduction since it was much more effective to transfer and move than large reels or records, which were some of the popular forms of listening to music prior to cassette players.


Vehicle Use


Although previous methods of playing music had been introduced to vehicles, such as the 8-track system, which played music based on tape in a similar method that cassette players did---cassette players were the first type of music player to dominate the automotive industry. Throughout the '80s and '90s, almost every major automobile manufacturer included cassette players within their vehicles.

Cassette players often times have difficulty playing cassette tapes due to how easily the tapes can be damaged. Since they play music off of thin tape, the tape can be broken or twisted. Common elements can damage or distort the quality of tapes, such as heat or water.

Cassette players were the first systems to play unabridged audio-books---leading to a boom in audio-book popularity during the '80s and into the new millennium.

The most notable disadvantage of cassette players---which led to them being rapidly rendered obsolete by CDs---is their quality of play. Their quality of play is much more grainy and distorted than digital systems.

Chromakey Lighting Techniques

Chroma-key photography or video uses a solid background, usually green, as a backdrop. In postproduction -- the processing of the digital files after the shooting -- the backdrop is replaced with another image. This creates an image in which it appears the main subjects are in front of a setting instead of a green screen. Proper lighting is critical to make the illusion work.


Background lighting


The most important technique of chroma-key lighting is balanced lighting of the background. Any variation in light intensity can keep the postproduction software from recognizing the background. The chroma-key background also should be brightly lit in order for the cameral to register the color accurately. Start with two large lights, one on each side of the set. Check for bright or hot spots on the chroma-key backdrop. Take test shots, if the lights are too bright, the backdrop may appear white.


Subject Lighting


Place lights aimed at the subjects high enough so that shadows do not fall from them on the chroma-key background. Check the color cast of the subjects. A green cast usually mean the subject is too close to the backdrop and the reflected light is coloring the subject. Additional lighting techniques include adding an orange filter on the lights pointed at the subject to counteract the green reflection.


Diffusing Lights


Hot spots on the backdrop can be created by either the backdrop lighting or the subject lighting. In either case, placing diffusers on the lights will spread the light over a wider area and reduces the hot spots. Commercial diffusers, such as soft boxes, are available but the same thing can be accomplished by placing bubble wrap over the lights.

Build A Gps Antenna

Remain on course during your next hiking trip with a GPS antenna.


If you've ever lost your GPS signal while hiking under a canopy of trees or in a canyon, you may appreciate the need for an external antenna. A GPS receiver's accuracy is dependent upon the strength of the satellite signals. An external antenna can provide increased signal reception, circumventing sources of interference. Build this compact antenna and remain on course during your next hiking trip.


Instructions


Preparation


1. Cut the copper wire into two 4-inch segments. Bend each wire 90 degrees at the center.


2. Cut two 2-inch-long strips of circuit board 1/4 inch wide using the mini saw. Measure 1/8 inch from the end of one circuit board strip, and remove a 1/16-inch cross-section of copper using the utility knife. Place the knife tip at the top center of the cross-section and pull the knife upward at a 45-degree angle, slicing off a small triangle of copper. This circuit board strip will be the active side of the antenna, and the other strip will be the ground side of the antenna.


3. Epoxy the two circuit board strips together with the copper sides facing out.








4. Cut a 4-inch-diameter circle from the bottom of the baking tin. Measure and mark the center of the circle. This will be the base plate.


5. Drill or melt a small hole in the side of the plastic container through which the coaxial cable can be fed.


6. Strip 1/2 inch of outer insulation from the end of the coaxial cable. Slice through a side of the braided insulation and twist it into a wire. Strip 1/4 inch of the plastic shield from the inner copper wire. Thread this end of the coaxial cable through the hole in the plastic container.


Assembly


7. Stand the sandwiched circuit board antenna perpendicular in the center of the base, cross-section end down. Solder the antenna to the base plate, making sure to keep it standing at a 90-degree angle. Fix solder between the active side of the antenna and the base plate only.


8. Measure and mark a line 1 3/4 inches from the base plate to a point on both sides of the standing antenna.


9. Align the 90-degree corner of the bent copper wire at the 1 3/4-inch mark on the ground side of the standing antenna. One leg of the copper wire should be pointing down, parallel to the antenna, and the other leg should be lined up with the mark, perpendicular to the antenna. Tilting the bottom leg out from the antenna at a 45-degree angle, solder the wire to the strip, maintaining this angle.


10. Solder the remaining bent copper wire to the active side of the antenna using the same procedure as the ground side.


11. Trim the horizontal legs of both copper wires to 1 1/2 inches from the center of the antenna strip. Trim the angled vertical legs to 1 13/16 inches from the center of the antenna strip. Taking care not to break the solder joints, gently bend the vertical legs until the tips are 1/2 inch above the base plate.


12. Saw the excess circuit board from above the horizontal copper wire legs.








13. Solder the coaxial copper wire to the active side of the antenna above the cross-section. Solder the twisted braid wire to the antenna below the cross-section.


14. Seat the base plate in the lid of the plastic container, and fit the container on the lid.


15. Crimp a connector to the free end of the coaxial cable appropriate to the external antenna jack of the GPS receiver.

Connect A Mac To A Pc With Firewire

Connecting a Mac to a PC with a Firewire cord can be advantageous for a person who wants to move files from a Mac to a PC or vice versa. While there are other ways of moving files-such as using USB drives or burning discs-it can take a long time to do this if the files are large. A Firewire connection between the computers allows a user to move even large files from one computer to the next in a matter of minutes.


Instructions


1. Turn on both computers. Connect one end of the Firewire cord into the back of the PC and the other end into the Mac. Wait a few seconds for the computers to recognize the Firewire.


2. Cancel the "Found New Hardware" prompt that appears on the PC. This prompt will repeatedly come up and it should repeatedly be closed.


3. Go to the "Start" menu and then to "Control Panel." Then click on "Network Connections." Find the icon that says "1394 Connection" and right-click on it. The "Properties" option will appear. Click on it.


4. Select the "TCP/IP" button when the "IP over Firewire" selection appears. Then select the "Properties" button.








5. Choose the "Use the Following IP Address" selection when the next window appears. Enter the following into the field: "192.168.3.1" and hit "OK."


6. On the Mac, go to "System Preferences" by clicking on the Apple logo on the top left corner of the screen. After clicking "System Preferences," select "Network Settings" and then "Built-in Firewire."


7. In the IP address field, enter the same numbers you entered on the PC: "192.168.3.1", then click on the "Show All" button in the top of the window.


8. Choose "Sharing" after clicking the "Show All" window (which takes you back to "System Preferences"). In the "Sharing" screen, check "Remote Login".


9. Visit winscp.net (see Resources section) to download WINSCP. After it has downloaded, open it. When the prompt asks for the Firewire IP address, enter the same address you entered previously-"192.168.3.1"-and log in using your Mac log in information.


10. The contents of the Mac hard drive will appear and you can now copy or drag files back and forth between the computers.

It's an unfortunate reality that anything that goes on our feet, especially in the summer when it's particularly warm, may end up developing an odor. Even though flip flops don't have much material to them, they can still develop an undesirable smell. There are many proven methods for removing odors from flip flops that can leave them smelling fresh, clean and a whole lot less embarrassing. All it takes is very little time and effort.


Instructions


1. Place a scented dryer sheet in each of the flip flops overnight. By morning they will smell fresh.


2. Sprinkle baking soda in each of the flip flops and allow it to sit overnight. Wipe the baking soda off the next morning with a clean cloth and the odor will be gone.


3. Place the flip flops in an airtight bag with crushed charcoal or kitty litter and leave it for 24 hours. Wipe them off with a clean dry cloth and the smell will be gone.


4. Wash the flip flops with Oxy Clean or bleach. Read the manufacturer's instructions carefully. Some materials cannot be washed in the washing machine and bleach will fade colors. Allow the flip flops to air dry.


5. Sprinkle salt all over the soles of the flip flops and allow them to sit for several hours before shaking the salt off. Make sure the flip flops are dry before applying the salt.

Replace A 9volt Battery With An Adapter







A power adapter can replace battery power in most circumstances.








Battery-powered devices such as radios and MP3 players utilize direct current electrical energy. Even though the battery-powered device may be portable, in many cases the device is kept in one place at all times.


Over the lifespan of a battery-powered device, batteries may be changed hundreds of times. If the battery operated device is kept in the same place at all times, and there is a nearby wall outlet, it may be more convenient and cost=effective to convert the device into an outlet-powered device.


Instructions


1. Open the battery compartment of your device and snip off the battery clip interface. Strip 1/4 inch of insulation from the exposed wires. Snip the connector end off the DC adapter and mark the positive DC adapter wire with a piece of tape.


2. Strip 1/4 inch of insulation off the DC adapter wires. Pull the wires apart so that there is approximately four inches of separation between the wires. Twist the positive DC adaptor wire to the red battery wire on the electrical device. Solder the connection and cover the joint with electrical tape.


3. Twist together the black battery wire with the remaining DC adapter wire and solder the connection. Wrap the joint with electrical tape. Clip a small piece off from the battery compartment cover, and run the adapter wire through the resulting hole. Replace the battery cover (making sure that the covered electrical joints remain in the battery compartment).

Recondition Rechargeable Deep Cell Batteries

Recondition your battery by slow charging it.


Deep cell batteries, more commonly referred to as deep-cycle batteries, are used to operate electrical equipment when a constant voltage is required, even if the battery is nearly discharged. Examples include electric wheelchairs and golf carts. Most deep-cycle batteries are flooded cell, meaning each cell contains electrolyte fluid. Reconditioning a rechargeable deep-cycle battery involves refreshing the fluid and initiating a slow but deep recharge.


Instructions


1. Put on a pair of gloves to protect your hands in case you accidentally get electrolyte splashed on them. Electrolyte fluid is mainly sulfuric acid and burns clothing and skin.


2. Unscrew and remove the plastic cell caps on your deep-cycle battery. Some are knurled caps so use your fingers to remove them. If the caps have screwdriver slots, use a screwdriver.


3. Look into the cells when the caps are removed. Start left to right. The electrolyte fluid level needs to reach the maximum marker on the cell wall.


4. Pour distilled water into the deep-cycle battery cells up to the maximum marker. The water will mix with the existing fluid. Once you start to charge your battery a chemical reaction takes place, changing and strengthening the electrolyte fluid, which reconditions the cells.


5. Replace the caps but leave them loose so they are not sealed. This allows air to escape when you're charging the battery because the fluid warms up and expands. Air needs to escape to stop the pressure from building up.


6. Connect the charger to your deep-cycle battery. Attach the red and black battery cables from the charger to the "+" and "-" deep-cycle battery terminals, respectively. The cables have spring-loaded clamps on the ends. Squeeze the handle using your hand, then place the jaws over the terminal and release the pressure.


7. Set a slow charge rate on your battery charger (it's probably called "trickle charge"). Slow charging reconditions the cells and helps dissolve any sulfation that has occurred in them. It also helps the chemical balance, meaning your battery cells can retain a greater charge.


8. Turn on your battery charger. Check the charge rate on the charger to ensure it's charging slowly. Let your deep-cycle battery charge uninterrupted for 36 hours.


9. Turn off the charger. Remove the clamps from the battery terminals. Tighten the caps on the battery cells using your fingers or a screwdriver as appropriate.

After a decade or so, the picture and sound recorded on a videotape starts to disappear. If you put an old videotape in a VCR you may find that parts or all of it is blank. It therefore makes sense to transfer your video to a more permanent digital format such as DVD.


The Facts


There are several ways to transfer video to a more permanent digital format. The easiest way is with a DVD burner or a DVD capture device. They are designed specifically for transferring video. You can also use your computer and a video editing program by converting your video to DV format. You could also pay someone to copy your video for you. There are many companies that specialize in video transfer.








Benefits


If you leave your memories on videotape they will eventually fade then disappear. Videotapes were not designed to last forever and deteriorate even if they are carefully stored. If video is transferred to another video tape, it loses quality in the transfer. The new tape will also eventually deteriorate. If video is transferred to a digital format such as a DVD or a hard drive, it will not fade and can be copied indefinitely with no loss of quality.


Risk Factors


Transferring video to a digital format can be cumbersome, time consuming and frustrating. Computers sometimes freeze or crash when crunching the massive data it takes to upload VHS tapes. This can cause many people to procrastinate or give up altogether. A little patience and tinkering can produce great rewards. Once you finish transferring your video to a digital format you can throw away those old videotapes.


Time Frame


The time it takes to transfer a videotape to a digital format depends on the method you use. Dubbing a videotape directly to a DVD burner can be done in real time. That means two hours of videotape will take two hours to copy. If you are downloading your video to a hard drive, then burning it to a DVD later, the process could take several hours for each hour of video.


Function








The easiest way to transfer video to a digital format is with a DVD burner. Simply connect cables from the VCR output to the DVD recorder input. Play your video tapes and press record on the DVD recorder. You will get a DVD in real time. A video transfer device is similar but converts video tapes to MPEG2 files. Connect your analog VCR to the digital MPEG2 converter box. Press play and record. The device will burn you a DVD. You can also go through the editing program on your computer. Your program must convert your VHS tapes to DV format. This will encode it to an MPEG2 file. You can then burn a DVD on your computer. Consider reducing the resolution when converting VHS tapes to MPEG2 files. Many devices and software allow you to convert at half resolution. The quality is still pretty good and it will allow a lot more information to fit in a limited space on a DVD.

Build A Simple Light Box

It was once said that a picture is worth a thousand words. Now, thanks to search engines like Google Images, a word is worth a thousand pictures---if not more! And it's getting increasingly more difficult to weed out the professionals from the amateurs. If you enjoy taking pictures and want to give them that polished, shot-in-a-studio look, you're going to need a good light box. Lucky for you, this can be done easily and cheaply. Here's how.


Instructions








Build a Simple Light Box


1. Take two pieces of foam board and tape them together so that the edges are touching. When taped together, the pieces of foam board should form an "L" shape. Run the tape along the outside edge where the corner you just formed juts out. This way you won't see any tape seams in your photography. This forms the top and the back of you light box.








2. For the bottom of the box, tape a third board on the opposite end of the back of the box. This third piece should mirror the top piece so that the box now has a "U" shape when the back panel of the box is laid on the floor.


3. Attach the sides, taping them in the same manner as the top and bottom panels. You should now have a square that is open on one end. Use the straightedge blade to trim any overhanging edges.


4. Insert the light bulb into the clamp-on lamp. Use the clamp to attach the lamp to either side of your light box.


5. Place the object you wish to capture on film inside the box and snap away until you get the perfect photo. Lamps can be readjusted and more lamps can be added to get the desired effect.

Replace & Align Ink Cartridges

Ink Cartridges


Ink Cartridges, like printers, are unique to the manufacturer and model. They have a few main commonalities---they are expensive, they contain ink, and they have to be replaced too frequently. When replacing an ink cartridge, it is important to align it so the printouts are sharp and clear.


Instructions


1. Power on the printer and open the lid or hatch covering the ink cartridges. Gently pull upward and outward to remove the old cartridges.


2. Remove the packaging and the clear strip over the new ink cartridges that is covering the copper contacts. Avoid touching the contacts with skin or clothing.


3. Insert the new cartridges in the correct slots. Most printers have one color cartridge and one black cartridge, but many also have multiple color cartridges. Push gently down and towards the printer until the cartridges snap into place.


4. Shut the lid or hatch and the printer will clean the cartridges. It may also prompt you to align the cartridges either on the built-in display on your computer. Follow the instructions to align the cartridges.


5. Consult your documentation or the support site for your printer model if you are not prompted to align the new cartridges and you can't find the printer maintenance functions. Every manufacturer and model is different. (See resources for support sites of popular manufacturers.)

Buy Black & White Film In Bulk

Kodak, Ilford, Kentmere and Fujifilm still manufacture black and white film. Both the traditional type and the C-41 process film that produces black and white prints but develops in color chemicals are available. Film generally is less expensive in bulk.


Instructions


1. Contact the manufacturer directly if you need a large quantity of black and white film. While individual rolls or cartridges of film generally may be purchased from retail outlets or online, ordering directly from the factory will get a shipment of fresh film delivered to your door.


2. Check a photo supply store for deals on buying film in bulk. Also, ask if they have old black and white film they'd like to get rid of as a lot. Photography stores often have sales on outdated film.








3. Order online from photography specialists such as Adorama or B&H Photo. Online businesses often provide discounts for bulk shipments. They also periodically offer sales.


4. Try eBay. Many photographers have or are making the switch to digital and may be clearing out their film. Even if it is out of date, black and white film retains a great deal of its quality even years later. Unlike color film, black and white doesn't not have sensitive dyes that can change over time. Apart from out-of-date film, eBay also often has bulk film for sale that is new and fresh.


5. Check out garage sales and flea markets. Many people long ago switched to digital, but they may only be cleaning out their closets now. Admittedly, these finds probably will be way out of date, but that isn't as much of a problem for black and white film.








6. Buy long rolls of film and load it yourself into reusable film cartridges. You will need a bulk film loader and you must be able to do it in total darkness. In this case, you purchase long rolls of your particular type film, for example, 35mm, then put the roll into the loader and load it into the cartridges. You can buy a loader and cartridges as well as the film at photo stores and online at photographic specialty stores.

Build A Radio Kit

Radio kits contain all the parts to build your own radio, though antenna and headphones usually are extra. You can build a simple crystal radio made with solderless connectors, a complex dual conversion shortwave ham receiver, a specialized satellite or weather radio, or a multifunctional AM/FM clock/alarm/start-the-coffee radio robot. Some radio-builders' first project is one built from scratch for a Boy Scout merit badge, using homemade parts (see BizarreLabs.com resource below). Most kits have schematic diagrams along with step-by-step building instructions. You can learn the electronics of what happens to an incoming radio signal to make it audible. It is a great thrill to make something that works--even if it doesn't work the first time (and they never do). You debug it and you tinker with it when it does work you smile and think make it better to push it to its limits.


Instructions


Preparation, Assembly, Testing


1. Read the instructions and gather tools on a clear workbench.


2. Check off the parts in the kit against parts list. Become familiar with the nomenclature and align them by category, i.e. capacitors with capacitors, resisters with resisters, etc.


3. Follow step-by-step instructions, mounting larger components and connecting them, checking that a solid connection was made. Cross-check against the schematic. See if it agrees; if not, trust the schematic.


4. When done make sure you do not have any parts left over. Sometimes kits may accidentally contain extra parts. If you use a yellow marker pen on your schematic as you go, you can check at a glance to see if you missed a step and go back and do it.


5. Now connect your antenna, and ground (if required) and connect your headphones. Insert the battery and turn on the radio. (A crystal set has no battery or your radio may be solar- or moon-powered.)


Any problems? Check your wiring again and make sure all connections are solid. Failing this, borrow a signal generator and troubleshoot to make sure all components are functioning.

Sony's digital camera range is versatile enough to accommodate both amateur and professional photographers alike. Their models encompass both basic point-and-shoot cameras for simple snapshots to elaborate single-lens-reflex-style models that give precise artistic control. How you use a Sony digital camera will depend on what model you have purchased.


Setting Up Your Camera








Sony digital cameras all require a battery and a memory card, no matter which model you have chosen. Start your experience by charging the camera battery fully. If the unit takes disposable batteries, make sure your batteries are fresh and fully charged. Old or poorly charged batteries may affect functions of the camera, such as metering and flash use.


The next important piece of equipment to use with your camera is the memory card. Older models of Sony camera may use a proprietary type of memory produced by Sony called a memory stick; other models may use an SD or Compact Flash card. Photographing With Your Sony


The act of taking a photo with your Sony camera can be as simple as aiming the lens and pressing the shutter release, or as manual as using a traditional film SLR. Whichever type of camera you have chosen, there are a few simple steps to taking a great image.








Select your shooting mode. Sony digital cameras offer a range of manual, semi-automatic, and automatic modes for shooting. Automatic modes will select the aperture, shutter speed, and ISO sensitivity for you. Manual mode requires you to select all of these, and semi-automatic modes allow you to control one or more, but not all factors. Understanding what modes are available on your camera will help you cope with different shooting conditions.


Compose the image using either the viewfinder or the LCD screen. Cameras that are point-and-shoot will display the image on the LCD screen as you are composing it. Single-lens-reflex cameras have the mirror in the way, so the image may only be composed in the viewfinder.


Press the shutter release halfway down to secure your focus. This works on both point-and-shoot and single-lens-reflex digital cameras. Pressing the button will secure your focus, locking it onto your subject even if the camera is moved.


Press the shutter release completely down to take your photograph. It will display on the LCD screen for a few moments after the photograph is taken, which allows you to review your image.

Stop Running Programs On An Htc Touch Pro2

The HTC Touch Pro2, one of HTC's smart phone devices, has a lot of programs of which you can take advantage. A set of programs come with the device by default, but you can also download and install other programs made for the Touch Pro2. These programs range from productivity applications to games. Additionally, the HTC Touch Pro2 allows you to run multiple programs at the same time. Stopping a single running program or all the running programs is simple to do.








Instructions


1. Open the "Quick Menu" by tapping the icon at the the top right corner of the screen. Alternatively, on the home screen tap the "Task Manager." This menu shows the programs that are currently running.


2. Tap the icon on the far left. This icon looks like a stack of folders labelled "X." Tapping this icon will stop all currently running programs.








3. Touch the "X" next to any program in the list that you want to stop. This will stop that single program from running.
